Irma Lindheim, veteran Zion- ist leader, successor to Henri- etta Szold as president of Ha- dassah, and noted author, will be the guest speaker at a meet- ing at the Jewish Community Center, Sunday, Nov. 17, 8:30 p.m. The meeting, which is open to the public, is sponsored by the Jewish National Fund, with the cooperation of several commu- nal organizations, including Ha- dassah and the Zionist Organi- zation, and as part of Jewish Book Fair. American born, Mrs. Lind- heim became identified with the Zionist cause and the upbuild- ing of Israel from her early youth. She studied at the Jew- ish Institute of Religion in New York City under the guidance IRMA LINDHEIM of the late Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, under Prof. John Dewey at Columbia University, specia- lizing in social studies. In 1926, she succeeded Henri- etta Szold as national president of Hadassah. She was also a former vice-president of the ZOA. She is a life member of the Zionist Executive—only 45 Jewish leaders having attained that position. In 1933 she took up residence in Palestine and became a mem- ber of a pioneer colony Kibbutz Mishmar Ha'Emek, working on a farm, side by side with the other pioneers. Imbued with the ideals of the Jewish National Fund from her early beginnings as a Zionist, she travelled ex- tensively on many JNF mis- sions, making a world-wide tour which included Australia and other countries. Mrs. Lindheim has just re- turned from Israel where she has lived for a number of years. She is the author of several books, among them "The Im- mortal Adventure" and "Paral- lel Quest." The former describes particularly her experiences on the land and on the farm settle- ments and her life among the Jews and Arabs. "Parallel Quest" is her most recent work. It is autobiograph- ical, and has been widely ac- claimed. It is a chronicle of a search of a people and a per- son. It has sold out completely and another edition is now be- ing published.
