kibbutz in the area and that an
exchange of fire took place in
which the one infiltrator was
killed. The other succeeded in
crossing the Jordan River back
into Jordanian territory.

Israel Warned Rash Action May Bring
Ban of Zionist Activity in S. Africa
(Direct JTA Teletype Wire
to The Jewish News)
JERUSALEM — A Jewish
Agency executive member urg-
ed the government of Israel
Wednesday to consider very
carefully before taking any ac-
tion to align itself with sanc-
tions against South Africa.
Leon Dultzin, returning from
a visit to South America and
South Africa, said Israel ought
to explain to all its friends the
"special aspects" of its relations
with South Africa, namely the
status of the Jewish community
there.
He warned that any "rash ac-
tion" might bring about the
banning of the Zionist move-
ment in South Africa.
He said that the intention to
cancel the Lydda-Johannesburg
route of El Al National Airlines,
for example, "could not only be
a sanction against South Africa,
but would also deal a severe
blow to that country's Jewish
community."
He also reported that about
8,000 Latin American Jews would
immigrate to Israel this year
and that this figure could be
doubled if proper absorption fa-
cilities were provided.
Ray Milland to Be City of Hope
Guest Celebrity at Nov. 3 Dinner
Morris Sukenic, dinner chair-
man for the second half-century
of progress annual dinner dance
sponsored by the Detroit Busi-
ness Men's Group of the City
of Hope, to be held at the Sher-
aton Cadillac Hotel on Sunday,
Nov. 3 announced that Ray Mil-
land will be the guest celebrity.
Milland, who is currently in
New York City, notified the
committee that he would be
happy to stop in Detroit to
spend the evening with the
members of the City of Hope
Group and their guests.
Milland, an outstanding star
of motion pictures, announced
that he has always been • ex-
tremely interested in the work
He said that in the light of
the successful absorption by
Israel of 15,000 Latin American
Jews coming since the establish-
ment of the State, and in view
of the tremendous potential im-
migration from that area, spe-
cial legislation was needed to
encourage "voluntary" immigra-
tion.

NEW ORLEANS, (JTA) —
The New Orleans Jewish Ledger
has suspended publication after
68 years of service to the New
Orleans Jewish community. An-
nouncement of the suspension
was made in last Friday's issue.
The paper had been in financial
difficulties for some months.
A. Slabot, president of the
publishing company and editor
of the paper, said in a state-
ment that "because of its 68
years of service, the Ledger has
become a community tradition,
and because to many it is their
only means of keeping abreast
of events in the Jewish world,
we hope that the suspension
will be of short duration."
