Seek Murderers
of 19,000 Jews in
Lida and Cracow
Witnesses to the massacre of
about 12,000 inmates of the Lida
ghetto in Poland are being
sought by the World Jewish
Congress.
Lida was the ghetto to which
the Nazis took Jews from many
of the surrounding centers, in-
cluding Woronowa, Iwja, Radun
and Zshetl.
Between 1941 and 1943, the
records show that the German
District Commissioner (Gebiets-
kommissariat) and the 1 o c a 1
police under his command were
responsible for the destruction
of the 12,000 Jews of Lida.
The World Jewish Congress
also has initiated a search for
survivors of the Cracow Jewish
community who can give evi-
dence concerning the Nazi de-
portation of over 2,000 Jews in
June, 1942.
Cracow Jewry, one of t h e
largest in Poland, was gradually
decimated by starvation, epidem-
ics and deportations to annihila-
tion and concentration camps.
The 2,000 rounded up in June,
1942, were taken to B e l z e c
where they were murdered.
Anyone who can give evidence
is requested to contact Dr. Nehe-
miah Robinson, director of the
Institute of Jewish Affairs of
the World Jewish Congress, 15
E. 84th St., New York 28.
