Yeshivah Building Fund Campaign
Progress; _Annual Dinner Nov. 10

The executive committee of
Yeshivath Beth Yehudah met last
Monday evening at Young Israel
North West Detroit with the
participation of Circuit Court
Judge Nathan J. Kaufman, Busi-
ness Men's Council dinner chair-
man, and reviewed educational
and financial phases of the activi-
ties of the schools on the open-
ing of the 49th year of Yeshi-
vath activities.
Rabbi Chiam Tzvi Hollander,
the new principal, outlined the
distribution of pupils and class-
es in the several departments
and 'branches, showing a con-
stant transfer from the Dexter
school to the Oak Park branch
of the Day School and afternoon
classes known as the Hebrew
Academy.
Twenty-seven Detroit syna-
gogues reported results of Rosh
Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Shi-
mini Atzeres appeals for the Mil-
lion dollar building and main-
tenance drive, totalling $152,-
093.18 With other pledges from
individuals outside of these
congregations, Beth Yehudah
treasurer Daniel A. Leven re-
ported $203,308.30 in subscrip-
tions to the goal, with nearly
$40,000 in cash.
Arrangements were completed
at the meeting for the Nov. 10
banquet at Cobo Hall, with Sena-
tor Abraham Ribicoff as guest
speaker and young Tel-Aviv Can-
tor Chaim Eliezer Herstik pre-
senting the musical program.
More than '700 tickets had
been distributed by workers for
the affair, as of Monday. The

dinner committee is scheduled
to convene next Tuesday eve-
ning at the Covenant Club.
Reservations for the annual
event are taken at the Yeshivah
on Dexter, WE 1-0203, or at
synagogue offices.

Beth Abraham Names
2 New Youth Leaders
Beth Abraham Synagogue an-
nounced the appointment of two
new youth leaders to its staff
according to Frank Leiderman,
youth director.
Jay Masserman, who recently
returned from Israel, will lead
the junior services each Sab-
bath starting at 10:15 a.m. for
children 7 to 11.
Risha Ring will once again
lead the nursery service for
children 4 to 6.
Mrs. Miriam Goldman leads
the arts and crafts program
which meets on alternate Sun-
day afternoons. Their project
will be a Sabbath candle holder.
The Tefillin Club is meeting
each week under the direction
of Norm Levin, a member of
the United Hebrew School pro-
gram.
The Leadership Training
Group will operate a car wash
11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at
Jerry Nelson's Shell Service at
Wyoming and Curtis. This group
meets Sunday morning under
the direction of Leslie Hubert.

Temple Israel will open its
College of Jewish Studies Mon-
day night, offering courses in
Bible and religious history, both
to train young people for religi-
ous school teaching and to of-
fer in-service training opportun-
ity for the teachers already on
its staff.
Among the courses offered
will be the history of the Bib-
lical period and the study of the
Bible, given by Dr. Leon Fram,
courses in Jewish Holidays, and
New Testament literature, given
by Rabbi M. Robert Syme, and
courses in beginners and ad-
vanced Hebrew, by Cantor Har-
old Orbach.
The courses will also be open

to any adult who wishes to study
Jewish history and religion.
They will be given 8-9, and 9-10
p.m. There will be a social
hour and reception for students
and faculty at the close of the
opening session 10 p.m. Monday.
Registration will take place

7-8 p.m. The first semester will
consist of eight successive Mon-
day night sessions, to be follow-
ed by a second semester of sim-
ilar length, beginning in Jan-
uary.
