In an address at the dinner meeting of Mosaic Lodge, at the
Masonic Temple, Sept. 25, Julius Kabatsky, Clerk of the U.S. Dis-
trict Court and U.S. Commissioner, gave a review of his experi-
ences in South Africa, Moscow, Israel and Northern Europe. -
Mr. and Mrs. Meyer Ben-Zvi (Harrison) returned to their
home, Ramat Yochanan, Israel, after a four-month visit here
with Mr. Harrison's sisters, Mesdames 0. Keer, Eva Heyman and
Ada Mandel, and brothers, Boruch, Sherman and Isidore.
Harry Schumer, president of Farband in Detroit, announces
that Jacob Katzman, national associate secretary of Farband
Labor Zionist Order, will address the city-wide conference of
the organization to be held Saturday and Sunday at the Labor
Zionist Institute. Cantor Reuven Frankel will render the musical
program.
A. David Cohen has received his master's degree in chemistry
at Wayne State University and recently flew to Israel, where he
will continue his Hebrew and Talmudical studies for one year.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Solomon B. Cohen, 14121 Winchester,
Oak Park, accompanied him to New York.
Thea Ann Deutsch has returned from study at the Sorbonne
in Paris, France, and from tours to the Scandinavian countries
and western Europe.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Robinson and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert
Goldman honored their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Morgan of
Santa Maria Ave. on their fortieth wedding anniversary with
a surprise party held at the Robinson home. Out of town guests
included Dr. and Mrs. Louis Jacobson, Dr. and Mrs. Donald Subert,
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Silverblatt, Ben Silverblatt of Toledo, 0., Mrs.
Paul Wilbur of Saginaw, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Holman and Mrs.
Irving Hesch of Buffalo, N.Y.
The Sherman Family Club will meet Sunday at 18234 Manor
with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Rosenberg hosting.
News comes from Washington of the forthcoming marriage
of Jordan Popkin, former aide to ex-Gov. John Swainson, to
Alicia Brandeis Gilbert, granddaughter of the famed jurist Louis
Brandeis. Popkin is special assistant in the African-European
Bureau of the Agency for International Development. His fiance
is assistant director for the international organizations division
of the Peace Corps.
Dr. Berol Lee Robinson, professor of physics at Western
Reserve University, Cleveland, 0., is presently attending the
International Meeting of Physicists in Warsaw, Poland. He is
the son of the Charles Robinsons.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gutterman had as guests their son and
daughter-in-law, Mr. 'and Mrs. Stanley Gutterman of New York.
Stanley Gutterman is the recipient of a fellowship at Columbia
University, where he will receive his Ph.D. in June. The couple
was also entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Cohen, Ben Cohen,
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Friedman and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Worona.
Barbara Goren, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Goren of
Beverly Ave., Oak Park, is living in Hollywood, Calif.
Mrs. Irving Rosenbaum of Los • Angeles, Calif., is visiting his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Rosenbaum of Northlawn Ave.
Sandford Ralph Kaner, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Kaner,
18431 Monica, has enrolled in the Ohio College of Podiatry.

Montefiore Hospital Affiliates with
Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Two of New York City's

joining forces for more effec-
tive action in meeting mounting
community health needs and in
alleviating the critical shortage
of doctors.
Formal affiliation of Montefi-
ore Hospital with 'the Albert
Einstein College of Medicine of
Yeshiva University was an-
nounced by Dr. Samuel Belkin,

Montefiore Hospital. Both insti-
tutions are located in the Bronx.
The new alliance is not a
merger but an affiliation tradi-
tional in medical education. It
will place at the service of the
community the total resources
and staffs of the two medical
complexes representing almost
$250 million in health facilities.

Catholic College
Offers Hebrew Class

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., (JTA)
—Iona. College, a Catholic Insti-
tution, will offer for the first
time this year a course in con-
versational Hebrew in its Gen-
eral Studies-Adult Education eve-
ning program of college courses
for the general public.
The college introduced the
evening course as an educational
community service. No academic
credits are required for the pro-
gram which starts next Monday.
Bernard Troy, a graduate of the
Jewish Theological Seminary of
America, will teach the new Iona
College course.
College officials cited in a
brochure "the remarkable re-
vival" and widespread interest
which Hebrew has been receiv-
ing in offering the course to
those desiring a working knowl-
edge of Hebrew.

U.S. Navy Names
Destroyer After
Dr. Bronstein

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The
U.S. Navy's newest and largest
destroyer escort has been
named the USS Bronstein in
honor of a Navy doctor who
was killed in action during
World War
This is the second ship to be
named for Lt. (j.g.) Ben Rich-
ard Bronstein; the first fought
in numerous engagements dur-
ing the war and was transferred
to the Uruguyan Navy in 1952.
The National Jewish Welfare
Board, which was advised by
the Navy of the commissioning
of the Bronstein at the U.S.
Naval Station in Charleston,
said that the new ship, desig-
nated DE-1037, has joined the
Pacific Fleet.
At 370 feet in length, Bron-
stein i3 about 60 feet longer
than earlier DEs. She carries
anti-submarine rockets and
other advanced armament sys-
tems designed to protect trans-
oceanic convoys. She will be
based at San Diego, Calif.
Ben Richard Bronstein, a na-
tive of Manchester, N.H., was
educated in Manchester and at
Tufts Medical School, Boston.
He was graduated from Tufts
in 1940 and in October, 1941,
entered the Navy as an assist-
ant surgeon with the rank of
lieutenant, junior grade. His
first assignment was aboard the
USS Jacob Jones.
Lt. Bronstein lost his life
when the Jones was sunk by a
submarine off Cape May, N.J.,
on Feb. 28 1942. He was award-
ed the Purple Heart .post-
humously and wore the Ameri-
can Defense Service Medal and
American Area Campaign
Medal.

Jewish community leaders
from 14 cities will participate in
a midwest area conference for
smaller cities sponsored by the
Council of Jewish Federations
and Welfare Funds at the Jew-
ish Community Center in Rock-
ford, Ill., on Sunday, it was
announced by Lewis D. Cole of
Louisville, Ky., and K. S. Golden-
berg of St. Paul, Minn., chair-
men of the East Central Region
and West Central Region of the
CJFWF respectively.
