On March 4, 1797, President
John Adams (1735-1826) deliv-
ered his inaugural address in
the City of Philadelphia, and in
concluding, stated: "And may
that Being who is supreme over
all, the Patron of Order, the
Fountain of Justice, and the
Protector in all ages of the
world of virtuous liberty, con-
tinue His blessing upon this
nation and this Government and
give it all possible success and
duration consistent with . the
ends of His providence."
The depth of the Hebraic in-
fluence on President Adams
leads to the conclusion that his
knowledge about Jews and Ju-
daism was more than superfi-
cial as one would realize when
reading the President's letter,
which was sent from Quincy,
Mass., Feb. 16, 1809, to F. A.
Vanderkamp, in which he said:

JERUSALEM—The Education
Ministry said Tuesday that
nearly 70,000 students from
Oriental and new immigration
communities will benefit from
more than $333,333 in secondary
and vocational school scholar-
ships.
The scholarship stipends are
being provided through a joint
government-Jewish Agency fund.

Mordecai M. Noah which is to
be found in the latter's book,
"Travels in England, France,
Spain and the Barbary Lands."

ents are from Oriental communi-
ties and the rest from families
who immigrated to Israel during
