The services for GIs are part of the year-round religious and morale program conducted for Jews in the Armed Forces by the National Jewish Welfare Board (JWB), through which some 100,000 Jewish service personnel at home and abroad, plus a like number of their dependents as well as more than 20,000 patients in Veter- ans Administration hospitals, maintain continuing ties with their tradition and their home communities. Officiating at GI Rosh Hash- anah and Yom Kippur services for the first time will be 16 Jewish chaplains who have just gone on active duty. JWB's Commission on Jewish Chap- laincy, which is responsible for recruiting, endorsing and serv- ing Jewish chaplains in all branches of the military, re- ported that 14 of the new chap- lains have drawn Army assign- ments and two have entered the Air Force. Arrangements have been made by JWB for the Air Force to fly three civilian rabbis to Plan to Dedicate Max Schneider Room at Yeshivah The children of Max Schneider will dedicate a room in his honor at the projected South- field home of Yeshivath Beth Yehudah with a contribution of $5,000 toward the institution's million dollar building fund campaign. USO-JWB field staff in this country and overseas, as well as thousands of volunteers in JWB's Armed Services Committees are work- ing closely with Jewish chap- lains in organizing religious services, home hospitality, and break-fast celebrations. JWB, a member agency of USO, is the government-au- thorized agency for religious, morale and welfare services to Jews in the Armed Forces and their dependents and to hos- pitalized veterans. Soldiers of the Israeli Army and Air Force will join about 200 American co-religionists in observing the New Year at the Fort Bliss, Tex., Jewish Chapel. Office Hours: Daily 9 to 5 and 7 to 9 Sundays 9 to 5 First Selichoth — Midnight Sat., Sept. 14 Cantor Louis Klein and Choir Public Invited Chicago Synagogue's Windows Are Smashed CHICAGO, (JTA) — Police here were investigating an at- tack on Congregation Kehilath Israel in which 12 windows in a set of four doors, and a bul- letin board window, were broken early in the morning before services. A resident across the street from the synagogue was awakened by the breaking of glass at 4 a.m. and saw an adult race for a car and drive away. The wit- ness said, however, that it was too dark to see the culprit or the car clearly. Rabbi Eliot Einhorn, spiritual leader of the congregation, inti- mated that the present integra- tion problem "may be a reason for this destruction of property." He is active in the South East Community Organization, which recently came out for open oc- cupancy laws.
