Trade Union Council
Will Hold Human
Rights Conference

Rosh Hashanah occurs on Thursday and Friday,
necessitating the enforcement of an earlier deadline.
For the issue of Sept. 20, the deadline will be at
noon on Friday, Sept. 13.

South Oakland Hadassah to Present
Mrs. Jacobson at Kick-off Meeting

Cantor and Mrs. Isaac Katz

Holiday Manor was the scene
of the golden wedding celebra-
tion of Cantor and Mrs. Isaac
Katz on Aug. 25. The ceremony
was conducted by Cantor Jacob
Sonenklar of Cong. Shaarey
Zedek, Cantor Hyman Adler of
Cong. Bnai David and Cantor
Louis Klein of Cong. Bnai
Moshe. Assisting the cantors
was Rabbi Joseph Katz of Tem-
ple Bnai Israel, Saginaw, son
of Cantor and Mrs. Katz. A
program of liturgical music
also featured Cantor Shabtal
Ackerman of Cong. Beth Abra-
ham, Cantor Rubin Boyarsky
and Cantor A. Rosenfeld.
An additional celebration
was the reunion of Mrs. Katz's
brother and sister-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Isadore Rosen of
Liverpool, England, with his
sisters after an absence of 44
years. Mr. and Mrs. David
Supac, sister and brother-in-
law of Mrs. Katz and Mr.
Rosen, who moved from Paris
to Detroit, completed the re-
union. Family and friends from
New York and Chicago were
also in attendance.
Brief remarks were made by
Abraham Borman, cousin of
Cantor Katz. Toastmaster of
the evening was longtime
friend of the family David I.
Barris, Detroit attorney.
Hosting the affair were their
three children, Rabbi and Mrs.
Joseph Katz of Saginaw, Mr.
and Mrs. Hyman Moore and
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kaye, both
couples of Oak Park. Seven
grandchildren and four great
grandchildren participated in
the celebration and ceremonies.

8 Youngsters Stage
Neighborhood Carnival
for Muscular Dystrophy

Eight youngsters in northwest
Detroit who recently staged a
neighborhood "Carnival f o r
Dystrophy" report they have
sent a check for $20.36 to the
Wayne County Chapter of the
Muscular Dystrophy Association
of America.
The idea for staging the
event was that of Howard
Finkelstein, 10, and Harvey
Sukenic, 9. Advertising to at-
tract neighborhood children to
the fun fair was handled by Gail
Abrin, 12, and her brother,
Martin, 9.
Sukenic, Finkelstein and his
brother, Stan, 13, recruited the
donations of prizes and refresh-
ments. Arrangements for deco-
rations, games and other prepa-

rations were' worked out by Dor-
een Sukenic, 7; Shira Doneson,

8; and Davida Doneson, 11.
Among sponsors of the car-
nival were the Dexter Davison
Market and Grunt's Market.

`Theater of Peretz'
to Open in New York

With the belief that there is
a need for a strong Jewish
Theater in English, Joseph R.
Burstin and Milt Warner have
joined forces in order to bring
the greats in Jewish Theater to
English speaking audiences.
"The Theater of Peretz," a
dramatic presentation taken
from the works of Isaac Loeb
Peretz, will be presented at the
Gate Theater, 162 Second Ave.,
New York, with Zvee Scooler
as Peretz, on Nov. 5. Previews
will run from Oct. 29 through
Nov. 3.

are being coordinated by Mes-
dames Edward Narens, Lawrence
Benenson, William Adler and
Bernard Podell. Friends are in-
vited.

South Oakland County Chap-
ter of Hadassah Will meet for
a dessert and coffee hour, 12:30
p.m. Tuesday at Temple Eman-

uel.
To open the 1363 Hadassah
Medical Organization campaign,
the S.O.C. Chapter will present
Mrs. Mortimer Jacobson of the
Bronx, New York, national
treasurer of Hadassah. Mrs.
Jacobson formerly served as
a national vice-president, na-
tional secretary, national Zionist
affairs chairman, national con-
vention chairman and national
organization chairman. She was
one of Hadassah's leading dele-
gates to the last three sessions
of the World Zionist Congress
and is a member of the Hadassah
delegation to the actions com-
mittee which meets annualy in
Israel.
During the last few years, she
has visited Morocco, Poland,
Czechoslovakia, and Marseilles
to study immigration problems
at first hand.
Included in the program will
be a "hootenanny," featuring
an all-Hadassah cast.
Plans for the opening meeting

Shutterbugs Meet
The Center Camera Club will
meet 8:15 p.m. Sept. 16 at the
Jewish Center. Award presenta-
tions will be made to winners
of last season's "queens" shoot-
ing session.

Undersecretary of State
Averell Harriman, International
Ladies' Garment Workers' Union
President David Dubinsky and
Congress of Racial Equality Na-
tional Director James Farmer
will head the list of speakers at
a conference of the National
Trade Union Council for Human
Rights, Sept. 13 to 15, at Unity
House, a summer resort in the
Pocono Mountains of Pennsyl-
vania.
More than 500 trade unionists
and civil rights leaders are ex-
pected to attend the conference.
The theme of the gathering will
be "Perspectives on the Civil
Rights Explosion."

Workmen's Circle Branch 156
will present a book review by
Solomon W. Schkloven 9 p.m.
today at the Workmen's Circle
Educational Center. Refresh-
ments will be served. Friends
