Rabbi Jessel, a native of
Toronto, is a graduate of the
University of Toronto and was
ordained at the Hebrew Union
College — Jewish Institute of
Religion in Cincinnati. During
the course of his studies at the
Hebrew Union College, Rabbi
Jessel took a leave of absence
to attend the Hebrew Univer-
sity in Jerusalem, where he
studied for two years. He has
also served in the Royal Cana-
dian Air Force.
While preparing for ordina-
tion, Rabbi Jessel was student-
rabbi for Temples in Oklahoma,
Texas. Arkansas and Iron River,
Mich. During the past year, he
served with the Hillel Founda-
tion at Miami University, Ox-
ford.
Following the "Service of In-
stallation," an Oneg Shabat and
reception honoring Rabbi and
Mrs. Jessel will be held for the
members and guests of the
Temple.
Services will be held 8:45
p.m. at the Maly and Samuel
Cohn Building, 31840 W. Seven
Mile, Livonia.

Ed Carey to Speak
at Beth Aaron Event
for Israel Bonds

Ed Carey, president of the De-
troit Common Council, will be
the guest speaker at a leader-
ship reception to be hosted by
Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Chapnick
at their home, 1347 Ardmoor,
Birmingham, at 8:30 p m. Sept. 5.
The reception is on behalf of

Dr. Jacob J. Ross

Continuing the series of adult
Torah l e c t u r es during the
month of Ellul, the new school
year at Yeshivath Beth Yehu-
dah will begin with a discourse
on "The Idea of Teshuva in
Hovoi h Halevovoth." by Dr.
Jacob Joshua Ross, head of the
philosophy department at Bar
Ilan University in Rammat Gan,
on visit here. The lecture will
be given 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at
Northwest Young Israel.
The guest lecturer will dis-
cuss the concept of "repent-
ance" as contained in the classi-
cal Jewish philosophic work of
the middle ages, "Duties of the
Heart" by Bahya.
Dr. Ross. a native of South
Africa, is married to Tamar,
daughter of Rabbi M. J. and I
Miriam Wohlgelernter (Itta- 1
mar), former Detroiters now re-
siding in Jerusalem. Dr. Ross
was visiting assistant•professor I
of philoophy at Brown Univer-
itY in Providence, R.I., and is
I leaving on Sept. 9 for a teach- I
ing position in London, Eng-
land, during his leave from Bar-
Ilan. He is the author of "The
Appeal to The Given," soon to
be published in the United
States.
The lecture is open to the
public. The evening is sponsor-
ed by the Parent-Teachers As- I
sociation of the Beth Yehudah
Schools, with the co-operation!
