Plant First Trees in Lewis JNF
Forest Being Planted in Israed
During their visit in Israel, Mr. and Mrs. M. Ben I ewis and
their sister, Rose Lewis, planted the first trees in the Lewis
Forest in Israel, the gift to JNF of Morris Ben and Ida F.
Lewis and their sisters, Rose and Jeanette Lewis and Norma
Hudosh. In addition to financing the Lewis Forest of 19.009 trees
in Israel, the Lewises also established a Baby Day Nursery
in Israel.
Hebrew Corner
Made in Israel
Many women in the world buy in
stores of foreign lands, products
made in Israel, or they buy these pro-
ducts while visiting Erets Israel as
tourists. In Israel, special stores have
been opened for tourists, in which a
large variety of Israeli products is
sold: glass, ceramics, metal-ware,
olive wood work, copper, silver, gold,
clothing, jewelry and house utensils,
and even carpets woven in Israel.
When a group of tourists comes to
such a store, there is an interesting
scene. The women fondle the goods
and become excited about a plate,
an earthen jug, silver spoons, forks,
candlesticks of olive wood, or silver.
Another group measures dresses and
blouses, and later you can see them
strolling on the streets wearing
Israeli clothing, blouses with Yeme-
nite emproidery, "Sabra" designed
skirts; and carrying in their hands
presents and souvenirs from Israel,
for relatives and friends.
Why are women in particular at-
tracted to Israeli production? Some
say it is because women like beauti-
ful and original things; while others
claim that women are more senti-
mental than men, and they buy.
Israeli products because of their
sentiments for Israel. It is clear that
Israeli products will penetrate to the
world markets, and many women
will adorn themselves with them, be-
cause of their bight standards of
quality.
Many communities, from all corners
of the earth, have gathered in the
State of Israel. Each one brought
with it its tradition in sewing, em-
broidery, art, home utensils and dec-
orations. These traditions have been
adopted in Israel, which produce
many varieties of goods, and the
women long for these products.
