Friday, August 16, 1963—THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS- 16 Promotions Announced for Six Jewish Faculty Members of WSU Promotions have been an- nounced by the Wayne State University board of governors for six Jewish members of the Wayne State University faculty. Dr. Arnold L. Goldsmith, 24237 Fargo, has been named as associate professor of Eng- lish. Dr. Werner G. Heim, 20476 Warrington, has been promoted to associate professor of biolo- gy. Dr. Morton Levitt, 18707 Cherrylawn, has been elevated to associate dean of the College of Medicine. Dr. Hugo Mandel- baum, 4030 Richton, has been named professor of geology. Dr. Max Mark, 24720 Manistee, Oak Park, becomes professor of poli- tical science. Dr. Eleanor P. Wolf, 18515 Santa Barbara, has If you like CHEESE KREPLACH been named associate professor of sociology and anthropology. Dr. Goldsmith, a graduate of Boston University and the Uni- versity of Wisconsin, has been on the WSU faculty since 1953. He is a native of Boston. Born in Mulheim-Ruhr, Ger- many, Dr. Heim received his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from UCLA. He joined the Wayne State faculty in 1957. His parents live in Long Beach, Calif. Dr. Levitt, a graduate of Wayne State University and the University of Michigan, is also professor of psychology at the college of medicine and was assistant dean before his pro- motion to associate dean. Born in Germany and a grad- uate of the University of Ham- burg, Dr. Mandelbaum was prin- cipal of the Hebrew Day School in Detroit (1940-47) after corn- ing to the United States. He came to the University in 1947 as an instructor. Dr. Mark was born in Vienna, Austria, and received his B.A. degree from Vienna State Col- lege and his J.D. from the Uni- versity of Vienna in -1933. He was a member of the faculty at Western Reserve University be- fore coming to Wayne State in 1952. A native of Detroit, Dr. Wolf was graduated from Central High School and received her B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Wayne State. She first joined the WSU faculty as a special instructor in 1945. The objective of that organiza- tion is to promote good will and understanding between the United States and other co- operating f or e i g n countries through the exchange of youth- ful ambassadors at the high school level. Although Ruedi has com- pleted his course in the Swiss Gymnasium ( equivalent to our high school), he will enroll in the 12th grade of Berkley High School where he will take courses in English and Ameri- can History and Civics. His plans, upon his return to his native country, are to study towards a degree in medicine.
