MRS. MURRAY BRICKMAN Mrs. Sims Describes Bncii Brith Women's Civil Rights Role Mrs. Danto is Given March of Dimes Post Karel Kunin Will rVi 71 Lett Human relations conferences and the Dolls for Democracy program sponsored by Bnai Brith Women chapters through- out the U.S. comply directly with President Kennedy's ap- peal for adoption of a civil rights program by the nation's women, declared Mrs. Leonard Sims of Detroit, president of the women's organization. Mrs. Sims cited these com- munity-level projects among "distinctive examples of our members' concerted efforts to further civil rights conference in the White House called by the President and attended by 300 leaders of major women's organizations. Mrs. Sims said the Presi- dent's recommended program encompasses to a "considerable degree civil rights activities which have long been an in- tegral part of B'nai B'rith Women chapter life." She point- ed to the Anti-Defamation League of Bnai Brith as a "guidepost to which we often turn and an organization with which we work closely." Mrs. Sims said local con- ferences to enhance community understanding among different racial groups have been "held by BBW members since 1957." The National Foundation, Wayne County Chapter of the March of Dimes, announces the appointment of Mrs. Samuel B. Danto, as chairman of the Women's Activities for t h e March of Dimes. TOMATO KETCHUP 3 2 95C B t e l Land Speculation an Israeli Problem . NEW YORK, (JTA) — Land speculation is one of Israel's most pressing problems, Mendel N. Fisher, secretary and consul- tant of the Jewish National Fund of America, reported upon his return from Israel. Both the Israel Government and the Jew- ish National Fund, he added, are devising means to counteract the speculation in real estate. The speculation, Mr. Fisher explained, stems from the shor- tage of land parcels for private exploitation. As matters stand now, he said, about 85% of all land holdings in Israel are regis- tered in the name of. either the Israel Government or of the Jewish National Fund. The pres- sure of increased immigration and of industrial development has created a market for land property, which is being ex- ploited by many speculators, particularly in urban areas. According to the information gathered by Mr. Fisher in the course of his conversations with leaders of the government and of Keren Kayemeth in Jerusa- lem, special legislation will soon be introduced in the Knesset, bolstering the powers of the Israel Land.
