"Electronic equipment used by researchers today is usually very expensive and too complicated for use by most schools," he said. "We don't need quite so high a quality of equipment at the high school and college levels as is needed by the research scientist." To date Levy and Degelman have designed a master unit which can power 26 pieces of equipment. Airman. Milton Zafron Dies in The Netherlands Jewish Groups Laud Kennedy's Proposals on Immigration Law LARKINS MOVING Milton Zafron, 22510 Gard- ner, Oak Park, died July 24 from injuries suffered in an accident while stationed with the U. S. Air Force in The Netherlands. He was 22. An airman second class, Zafron was. a graduate of Oak Park High School and attended Wayne State University for two years. He had been in the Air Force since 1960, serving as an electronics technician. Survivors include his parents Mr. and Mrs. Sam Zafron; sis- ter, Sandra Lee; and grand- parents, Mrs. Ida Brenner and Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Ravitz. Services will be held 3:30 p.m. today at the Kaufman Chapel. NEW YORK (JTA) - Major Jewish organizations issued a joint statement commending President Kennedy's immigra- tion law proposals and calling upon the Congress to pass them. The statement reads: "President Kennedy's pro- posal for gradual abolition of the national origins quota sys- tem is a major step toward the rectification of the dis- crepancy between our immi- gration code and the true in- terests of our nation and the democratic values upon which our national life is based. Enactment of the President's proposal would manifest to the world our commitment to in- dividual dignity, equality of op- portunity and human brother- hood; within our own borders, it would contribute to the cam- paign for elimination of racism from American life. "The need for the reforms recommended by the President has been voluminously estab- lished by testimony and other data gathered over the years. Neo-Nazi Quarters Raided in Germany BONN (JTA)-Three persons suspected of forming a link be- tween neo-Nazi organizations in West Germany and the so-called World Union of National So- cialists have been arrested in this country, according to the federal prosecutor at Karlsruhe. The names of the suspects were not made public. A raid on the headquarters of •the group, the prosecutor said, disclosed literature show- ing the link between the neo- Nazis here and the world or- ganization. Among the • items were 100 reprints of a 1934 is- sue of "Der Sturmer," the no- torious anti-Semitic publication issued under the Nazi regime, devoted to an "expose" of al- leged Jewish practice of ritual murder. Philanthropist Charles Gutwirth Dies NEW YORK, (JTA)-Charles Gutwirth, prominent Jewish philanthropist a n d diamond merchant, died here July 25 at- the age of 71. Born in Antwerp, Belgium, Gutwirth came to the United States in 1939. He was a vice-president of Ampal and of the Israel De- velopment Corporation, one of the founders of the Albert Ein- stein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, an active supporter of the United Jewish Appeal, the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, the Weizmann Institute of Science, in Rehovot, and the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of Greater New York. Selma Arden Dies Selma E. Arden, 17555 Wilde- mere, died July 31. She was a member of Temple Beth El and its sisterhood, the Council of Jewish Women, ORT, Women's City Club, Hadassah, Women's Division of Brandeis University and was an active Red Cross volunteer during World War II. Surviving Mrs. Arden are her husband, Manuel E., a promi- nent real estate developer; daughter, Mrs. Harold A. (El- lin) Lawson; brothers, Irwin Hamburger, Burt Homburger of Bay City and Abner Homburger of Buffalo; and two grandsons. The courses, both on campus and by correspondence, are conducted by Prof. Manfred Mansoor, who taught Hebrew to adults and university stu- dents in London, Dublin and Baltimore, before joining the faculty of the University of Wisconsin. The correspondence courses lead students from the alphabet to advanced Hebrew. Car- valho, since 1954 president of the Anglo-Jewish Association, resigned effective Oct. 1. The unexpected resignation will be filled by the AJA Council when it meets in early fall.
