BONN — West German State
Secretary Hans Globke declined
to comment here Wednesday on
the sentence of life imprison-
ment handed down Tuesday by
an East Berlin court following
his conviction in absentia on
charges of having helped pre-
pare measures for the mass
killing of Jews.
More than 70 witnesses were
heard in the trial, including

representatives of Nazi victims
organizations from Poland, Is-
rael and France.
A Christian Democrat spokes-
man said here that the East
German sentence was without
legal significance and was the
result of a "show trial" by a
state based on injustice.
Globke, 64, has announced
his intentions of retiring from
his government post later this
year.

TEL AVIV — Israeli fighter
planes Tuesday intercepted two
Egyptian MIG 17 jets over the
Nitzana area in the south of
Israel, an army spokesman an-
nounced here.
After the clash, in which one
of the Egyptian planes was pre-
sumably hit, the UAR jets re-
turned to Egyptian territory.
All of the Israeli fighters re-
turned safely to their base, the
official communique stated.
A report from Cairo mean-
while claimed that one Israeli
plane was shot down over the
Sinai desert Tuesday morning
while other planes withdrew to
Israeli territory. The Cairo dis-
patch said that all Egyptian
planes returned safely.
Pictures taken during the
clash Tuesday over the Nitzana
area showed here Wednesday
that one of the Egyptian planes
was hit in the right wing where
smoke was visible. It is esti-

mated that the Egyptian planes
penetrated some six to nine
miles inside Israel territory.

Rockwell Is Arrested in Virginia;
Charged with Conspiracy to Incite

EMPORIA, Va. (JTA) —
American Nazi Party leader
George Lincoln Rockwell was
under arrest here on charges
of "conspiracy to incitement."
He was arrested F r i d a y,
police charging that he has
been touring the state to enroll
volunteers for a counter-march
on Washington on Aug. 28, in
opposition to the Civil Rights
march scheduled to be held in
the national capital that day.
(In New York, Louis Mostac-
cio, a member of the anti-

Semitic National Renaissance
Party, was given a five-day jail
sentence for assaulting a de-
tective during an open air
meeting his group held in the
Yorkville section of the city,
six weeks ago. Wearing a Nazi
storm-trooper's uniform, Mos-
taccio used a flagpole for at-
tacking a group of persons that
tried to break up the neo-Nazi
meeting. In the melee, he hit
detective John P. Keeney, who
was a member of the police de-
tail trying to curb the rioting.)

Magen David Adom, Israel's
national Red Cross Service, has
been blocked — temporarily —
by the Mountains of Galilee.
In order to speed up ambu-
lance dispatching, Magen David
Adorn recently obtained from
American Red Mogen Dovid
$200,000 worth of radio equip-
ment to install two-way sets in
all ambulances and set up con-
trol stations in different parts of
the country.
The network worked perfectly
until the service's radio engi-
neers moved into the hills of
Galilee. They found the moun-
tains blocked out contact with
ambulances and stations.
The result, an S.O.S. has been
sent to American Red Mogen
Dovid headquarters at 50 W. 57th
St., New York, for additional
special equipment that will cost
about $25,000. Urgent steps are
being taken by American Red
Mogen Dovid for Israel to over-
come the difficulties posed by
the Mountains of Galilee.
