Rabbi and Mrs. Richard Hertz and Rabbi and Mrs. Robert Syme are among a large group of alumni of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of -Religion and Jewish lay leaders participating in the dedication ceremonies of the new Hebrew Union College Biblical and Archaeological School in Jerusalem today through Monday. Miss Lynn Goldberg of 1260 Strathcona Dr. and her classmate from the University of Michigan, Miss Merci Giber, of Youngs- town, have left for a two-months trip to Europe and Israel. They will study at the University of Florence for one month. Mr. and Mrs. Morris Lieberman and Mr. and Mrs. Isadore L. Shrodeck, leaders of the Labor Zionist Organization of Detroit, plan to meet in Israel this summer. The Cornfield Family Club will hold its annual picnic Sunday at Middle Rouge Park. Mahler and Goldberg to Direct Service Group Israel Survey Tour cilities that the Joint Distribu- tion Committee hag established in France to serve Jews who fled Algeria. The Israel portion of the tour will include an all- day trip to Eilat. 3 Guest Instructors Will Hold Workshops in Music at Stratford Mahler Goldberg The Detroit Service Group Israel Survey Tour will leave Detroit Oct. 1 for a 14-day in- spection of Allied Jewish Cam- paign supported programs and facilities in Israel. Milton K. Mahler, former president of the Service Group, and Irving . Goldberg, 1963 Al- lied Jewish Campaign chair- man of the arts and crafts di- vision, will be tour co-chairmen. Bert L. Smokier, associate chairman, Tamarack Hills Au- thority will be survey chairman and will direct the presentation of the group's report. Milton Weiner, secretary of the Jewish Welfare Federation community relations budget and planning division, will be tour director. The survey tour is for lead- ers and key workers in the Jewish Welfare Federation's Al- lied Jewish Campaign. The tour will include visits to refugee centers in Paris and Vienna. A multi-lingual official , of the Jewish Agency will join the tour in Israel and will introduce tour members to Israelis in all walks of life. Lillian Fuchs, viola; Robert Koff, violin; and Sol Schoenbach, bassoon; have ac- cepted invitations to conduct the workshop sessions, together with Oscar Shumsky. Sol Schoenbach, previously announced as one of the guest artists for the. Sunday after- noon concert on July 28, will be .the instructor for Wood- winds. Glenn Gould and Oscar Shumsky, festival music direc- tors, noted that Schoenbach is the first woodwind instructor to participate in the workshop series. Lillian Fuchs, the well-known violist, has performed with the world's major orchestras in solo recital and with her brother, Violinist Joseph Fuchs. She has appeared at the Casals Festi- val in Prades, France, and has been featured often with the Musicians' Guild in New York. Miss Fuchs has inspired many contemporary composers t o write works especially for her, including Quincy Porter, Mar- tinu and de Menasce. Platt, Rosenbaum to Attend Student Zionist Seminar Dr. Marie Syrkin, associate professor of literature at Bran- deis University and Editor of "Jewish Frontier," along with Sholom Katz, editor of "Mid- stream" magazine, and Katriel Katz, Consul General of Israel in New York, Will be but a few of the visiting lecturers at the first Leadership Training Sem- inar of the Student Zionist Or- ganization to be held during August at the Hechalutz Israel Institute, Hightstown, N.J. The recently organized sem- inar for the training of quali- fied leadership for the Zionist movement on campus is designed to give the 40 participants a phi- losophy and working approach to the Zionist movement on campus, and will provide courses in basic Jewish knowledge, Zionist his- tory, the State of Israel, the American Jewish community, as well as educational and organiza- tional methodology necessary for the work of a student Zionist leader.
