June Brides

and I've been studying to find
out just what the Jewish au-
thorities think on the subject.
I find they are favorable.

have nourished the idea of
ascetism that we find in some
religions. No one is regarded
more of a saint for not having
married. There are some cyni-
cal remarks about the institute
of marriage—among the folk
sayings, but these do not rep-

A great deal of advice is dished
out about choosing the proper
mate. One of the most frequent
points stressed is the need of a
common interest and yet I think
of the case of Heinrich Heine,
whose wife vas a simple peasant
girl, Mathilcla.
On his death bed, Heine said
he hoped she would immediate-
ly re-marry after his passing.
"Why?" she asked.
"Because," said Heine. "I
want someone to mourn my
passing."
Heine was just being whim-
sical. Actually he was very
much in love with this peasant
girl, though intellectually she
certainly was no mate.
Perhaps the case of Heine
