Ibihavitcher Favors Federal Aid to Our Schools
NEW YORK — The Luba-
vitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem
M. Schneerson, spoke out strong-
ly here this week in reaffirm-
ing his position in favor of
federal aid to parochial schools.
According to a disclosure
from his secretariat, the Rebbe,
addressing a group which in-
cluded several prominent re-
ligious and lay leaders visiting
him at Lubavitcher headquar-
ters, reiterated his affirmative
stand in 'favor of federal assist-
ance to secular departments of
parochial schools, which would
enhance• the progress and uplift
the standards of these institu-
tions without constituting any
violation of separation of church
and state principles, as clearly
evidenced by the various forms
of federal aid granted, both in
the past and present, to such
schools.
The Danish Regional office
of the Merkos L'Inyonei
Chinuch, in Copenhagen, the
educational arm of the Luba-
vitcher movement, announced
the publication of the third in
a series of booklets on Jewish
Precepts and Customs, in
Danish. The new booklet,
"Bedereme" (Danish for Te-
fillin), is a brief treatise on
the significance of Tefillin,
and is a translation of the
English version.
For the first time it will be
possible for the Yiddish speak-
ing to learn the fundamental
teachings of Chabad-Lubavitch
philosophy, by listening to mod-
ern long playing records.
The first 13 chapters of the
"Tanya," the basic work of
Chabad philosophy, narrated
and translated by Rabbi Joseph
Weinberg, will comprise nine
records. The first two of the
series are now available, and
the remaining seven to follow.
The first of the five parts
of the Tanya contains 53 chap-
ters. It was published for the
first time in 1797, and has since
undergone approximately 60
printings. Its author, Rabbi
