No solicitation of funds Come and bring your friends Israel Development Minister Almogi Minimizes Rumor of Mapai Split; Addresses Large Bond Rally Here United Hias Raises $750,000 for UJA NEW YORK, (JTA) — Gifts totalling $750,000 were contrib- uted to the 1963 United Jewish Appeal rescue and resettlement campaign by 300 community leaders at a dinner given by the United Hias Service in behalf of the 25th anniversary year campaign of the UJA of Greater New York. Murray I. Gurfein, president of United Hias, in addressing the dinner, declared: "In 1962 our agency was one of those called into action by a Jewish migration explosion which drove more than 200,000 Jews from their homelands in a frightened search for survival in the free world. There are still an esti- mated 3,000,000 Jews in East- ern Europe, North who and the Middle East who are poten- tial migrants. If given the op- portunity we know that many thousands with close family ties in the United States, Canada, large number of immigrants who continue to settle in Israel. He reported that there is great progress in the land and said "these are the seven good years and we face seven better years." His optimistic report em- braced many areas of Israeli activities. He said that while more and more immigrants are arriving, there still is over- employment and there is a shortage of manpower. Almogi spoke of the growing exports, of the manner in which Israel is replacing Belgium as a diamond center, and the ex- pansion of the citrus and fash- ion industries. He said there is an effective .integration program and "in a few years there won't be any difference between Yemenite, Moroccan and American" in Israel.
