Former Detroiter
Davidson Returns to
Encourage. Aliyah
By DAVID WEISSMAN
TEL AVIV—Mark M. David-
son, a former Detroiter, is so
much sold on Israel that after
a two-year residence here, he's
going back to his home town
and other big cities in the
States to . urge more of his coun-
trymen, more of his felloW
Zionists, to make the Aliyah to
Israel.
Davidson, a member of the
executive committee of the 12,-
000 membership Association of
Americans and Canadians in
Israel will spend two-and-a-half
months in the States, with his
headquarters at the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Da-
vidson, 17550 Mark Twain.
He will lecture on life in Is-
rael as led by immigrants from
the States and interest Ameri-
cans in overseas support for the
Association, which is practically
the doorway through which
most American and Canadian
immigrants make their initial
entrance into the life in Israel.
Davidson was president of the
Zionist Student Organization in
Detroit from 1958 to 1961 at
Wayne State University. He
said he aims to stir American
Zionists to the necessity of help-
ing American aliyah through in-
vestment in the Association's
Mortgage Loan Fund, thus en-
abling Americans to get suit-
able housing on long terms and
low rates.
"The British Zionists, the
South African Zionists and the
Canadian Zionists are most lib-
eral in investing in such loan
funds. American Zionists, so
far, have failed lamentably," he
said.
A B.S. and M.A. graduate of
the University of Detroit, Da-
vidson served in Korea and
Japan, was one of the origina-
tors of the first Hebrew School
in Tokyo and became its prin-
cipal and cantor. He taught at
the Fitzgerald High School in
Warren, was director of student
activities and the Student Coun-
cil of the school, instructor of
Hebrew at Shaarey Zedek Con-
gregation and was on the execu-
tive committee of the Fitzger-
ald Educational Association of
Detroit.
In Tel Aviv, Davidson is an
associate in P.A.R. Metal Cut-
ting and Braking Corp., and in
Lydda Aluminum Corp., at
Lydda (Lod).
In addition to his active par-
ticipation in the -Association for
Americans and Canadians in Is-
rael, Davidson acts as cantor
for the Progressive Synagogue
in Kfar Shmaryahu.
