"The Church and the School"
a special telecast featuring a
timely and provocative tri-faith
discussion about religion and
the public schools, will be fea-
tured in a special telecast at
1:30 p.m. Sunday over Station
WXYZ-TV.
The unique public service
program, which features Rabbi
Morris A d 1 e r, Rev. Malcolm
Boyd, and F a t h e r Joseph
Walsh, as well as program mod-
erator Paul W i n t e r, of the
WXYZ-TV staff, was arranged
in order to provide a broad
basis of clarification and under-
standing of some of the vexing
and perplexing issues in the
church-state controversy cur-
rently faced by the Jewish and
the general community.
The panel consisting of rep-
resentatives of the three major
faiths, presents a segment of an
on-going dialogue now in pro-
gress with respect to the role
and the place of prayer in
American society. Among ele-
ments included in the discus-
sion of these three religious
representatives are the role of
the minority in a democratic so-
ciety, and the respective posi-

tions of church and state in
mid-twentieth century America.
In the course of the discus-
sion reference will be made to
the position of the three major
faiths regarding the recent Su.,
preme Court decision about the
New York regents prayer.
Because of wide community
interest in the issues involved,
the Council urges the commu-
nity to tune in to the "provoca-
tive and insightful program re-
lating to church and state."
