been installed president of the
Michigan Region of Women's
American ORT.

Dr. Henry Raphael Gold, of
New York, noted orator, Ortho-
dox Jewish leader and an emin-
ent practicing psychiatrist, will
speak here Thursday, June 27,
12:30 p.m., in the social hall of
Congregation Brrai Moshe,

versity: A Cultural Mother."
Dr. Gold will address the
semi-annual meeting of the
Detroit Chapter of American
Women for Bar-Ilan University
in Israel. Mrs. Max Stollman,
the organizer of the local chap-
ter, is national chairman of the
women's university movement.
The guest artist on June 27
will be Mrs. Arthur William
Monson, Temple Israel soloist
and Wayne State University
music major, who will appear
in a program of classical music
and Israel and Yiddish folk-
songs.
The Detroit Women for Bar-
Ilan function has been plan-
ned by Mrs. Herbert Eskin,
program chairman; • Mrs. Her-
man K. Cohen, book and trib-
ute chairman; and members of
the executive committee, Mes-
dames Samuel Aaron, David
Pollack, Theodore Bargman,
Tom Borman, Irving W. Schlus-
sel, Harry Portnoy and David
J. Cohen.
Dr. Gold, as sociologist and
and cultural psychiatrist, has
made an impact on audiences
throughout the land. He holds
degrees from Columbia, Harv-
ard, Tulane and Baylor uni-
versities. He is a world trav-
eler and has an intimate knowl-
edge about Israel and Bar-Ilan
University. He is a Fellow of
the American. Psychiatric As-
sociation and a consultant in
psychiatry at Roosevelt Hos-
pital, New Yark.
Bar-Ilan members and
friends are invited to the June
27 semi-annual meeting. A des-
sert luncheon will be served.

Mrs. Schlafer announces that
for the first time the Michigan
Region of Women's American
ORT has been awarded the
coveted membership t r o ph y,
which is presented annually by
the national organization to that
region enrolling the greatest
percentage of new members. Re-
tiring vice-president of member-
ship, Mrs. Daniel C. Siegel
spear-headed the campaign. The
Michigan Region now has ap-
proximately 2,200)members, com-
prising 13 chapters.
The name of American Haven
Club was added to the inscrip-
tions on the Freedom Bell at
Hadassah Medical Center in
Jerusalem, it was announced
this week by Mrs. Benjamin
Bond, chairman of Hadassah's
treasury gift committee.
The club gave a contribution
of $500 for that purpose in mem-
ory of Nellie Gedanke, one of
its members who passed away a
year ago.
Three years ago, when the
club had 27 members, it con-
tributed $2,500 to Hadassah
Medical Center for a bed in the
mothers and children's pavilion.
Mrs. Bond's treasury gifts ac-
tivities commenced 10 years ago
when she secured a $50 gift from
the European Jewish Women's
W elf a r e Organization. Soon
thereafter, the EJWWO gave
$10,000 for a room in the Hadas-
sah Medical Center.
During the last 10 years, Mrs.
Bond raised $70,000 for .Hadas-
sah in treasury gifts.
