The Shakespearean Festival
will open at Stratford, Ontario,
June 17, with Shakespeare's
Trojan love story, "Troilus and
Cressida."
"Cyrano de Bergerac" will be
repeated this season, starting
on June 18.
Shakespeare's "Comedy of
Errors" will be staged June 19.
Again, Louis Applebaum and
Tanya Moiseiwitsch play impor-
tant roles in the preparations
for the festival.
Applebaum has composed the
incidental music for many of
the Stratford Festival produc-
tions, most recently "Romeo
and Juliet" (1960), "Corio-

lanus" and "Henry VIII"
(1961), and for "The Taming
of the Shrew' and "Cyrano de.
Bergerac" last season. He be-
came Music Director of the first
Stratford Music Season in 1955
and continued in that position
until 1960. Mr. Applebaum was
responsible during this time for
the creation of the • Festival's
Music Workshops, the formation
of the National Festival Orches-
tra and the 1960 International
Conference of Composers. He
also composed the Festival's
fanfares in 1953, which have
since becOme a traditional part
of each performance. Since
1958, he has been the Music

Director for the musical pro-
ductions presented in the Avon
Theatre. For the 11th Festival
season, Louis Applebaum has
composed the score for "Troilus
and Cressida" and will serve as
Music Director for "The Mika-
do".
