Sephardic Studies Plan to Aid Jewish Children in Morocco LONDON (JTA)—The Central British Fund and the British OSE announced a project to improve the nutrition of Jewish babies in Morocco. The project, which has been accepted as part of the Freedom from Hunger campaign of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organiza- tion, will cost an estimated 13,000 pounds sterling ($36,400) By BENJAMIN LEVINSON In my pride of being one of Detroit's Yeshiva Uni- versity Ambassadors, I wish to join in the appeal to our community to provide traditional support for the great institution of learning which, while located in New York, serves all of American Jewry. The university began as a rabbinical college. Now it is a university in every sense of the word. It has several departments which have earned the acceptance and respect of the entire country. It possesses one of the best collegiate mathematical departments. Yeshiva University has an outstanding scientific faculty and excellent laboratories. Its sponsorship of the Einstein College of Medicine gives the university added status. I am privileged to be associated with this university and I urge our community's most generous support of it. and will be financed by the two British groups through ap- peals conducted among British Jews. The project, which is aimed at bringing the nutritional standards for Moroccan Jewish infants up to par with European children, includes the training of special personnel and the set- ting up of infant feeding demon- stration centers. College Bowl Team at Ambassador Ball Here Sunday The team of students from Yeshiva University who appear- ed on the CBS network TV show, the GE College Bowl, will fly here from New York the coming Sunday evening, to join the De- troit Jewish community in honor- ing 30 Ambassadors of Yeshiva University at the Detroit Ambas- sador Ball. Ambassadors are those who have contributed $1,000 or more to advance the educational and scholarship pro- grams of the university. Abraham Borman is chairman and John E. Lurie is co chairman of the Detroit Friends of Yeshiva University, the sponsoring organ- ization. Daniel A. Laven and Nathan I. Goldin are treasurer and secretary respectively. David Goldberg is general chairman of the dinner-dance, Robert Brody and Edward C. Levy are co-chair- men. Benjamin Levinson is the Detroit Marshall of Ambassadors. JERUSALEM, (JTA) — Judge Binyamin Halevi, president of the Jerusalem District Court, was nominated for the Israel Supreme Court. His nomination as the 10th justice on Israel's highest tribunal is subject to the formal approval of the Presi- dent. Born in German y, Judge Halevi settled in Palestine in 1933, and has been president of the Jerusalem court since 1947. Mrs. Jungreis, a 21-year-old senior majoring in English, of Flushing, N. Y., is a New York State Regents Scholarship win- ner and plans for a teaching career. Kaplan is a 19-year-old sopho- more whose interests are in mathematics and history. Reiss, 20, a senior majoring in history, is president of Historic Society and a member of the university's Greek debating team which recently wan national honors. The Ambassador Ball, a din- ner-dance, is the sixth annual event here in Detroit on behalf of the university.
