Author of 'The Feminine Mystique'
Speahs June 5 to Federation Women

will be able to attend an arts
and crafts workshop and see an
exhibition of synchronized
swimming.
Mrs. Friedan's book asks why
thousands of happily married
women feel 'desperate" and
empty." The author traces the
history of the American woman
from the post-war attack on
"mom" to the present phenom-
enon of 'togetherness." Mrs.
Friedan collected material for
her book from doctors, psycho-
analysts, marriage counselors,
child guidance workers soci-
ologists and educators.
A suma cum laude Smith Col-
lege graduate, Mrs. Friedan
lives in Grandview, N.Y. with
her husband and three children.
Mrs. Philip R. Marcuse is the
1963 President of the Women's
Division. Mrs. Harry L. Jackson
and Mrs. Sam Barnett are chair-
men of the annual meeting. Mrs.

Mrs-. Betty Friedan will define
the "feminine mystique" for
members of the Jewish Welfare
Federation Women's Division at
their annual meeting, Wednes-
day, June 5, at the Jewish
Center.
The author of the controver-
sial best seller "The Feminine
Mystique" will highlight a day
devoted to having fun at the
Center. Women's Division mem-
bers are being urged to come
to the meeting in shorts or
slacks and to use the Center

Goldmann Praises
Jewish Resistance

NEW YORK, (JTA) — The
Jewish resistance movement
during the Nazi regime in Eu-
rope compared favorably with
the resistance offered by non-
Jews, and all charges of cowar-
dice against the Jews oppressed
by the Nazis are "morally con-
temptible," Dr. Nahum Gold-
mann declared at a meeting
held here by 600 survivors of
the infamous Bergen -B e 1 s en
concentration camp, commemo-
rating the liberation of that
Nazi death factory.
Declaring that much. blame
adhered to "the leaders and
peoples of the Allied countries,
who, during World War II
stood witness to the great tra-
gedy of which they were in-
formed," Goldmann said "there
was more resistance from Jews
than from any other segment of
the European population."
Another of the speakers,
Israel's former Attorney Gen-
eral Gideon Hausner, who had
been chief prosecutor in the
trial of the late Adolf Eich-
mann, warned the meeting that
"Israel is now being threatened
by neighboring countries who
proclaim their intention of fin-
ishing off what Hitler and
Eichmann left undone." Refer-
ring to the German scientists at
work in Egypt now on deadly
weapons intended for Israel's
destruction, Hausner called
upon the world powers "to en-
sure that all preparations for
this openly proclaimed aggres-
sion be stopped at once."
