Soviet Academy
Prepares Catalogue
of Jewish Documents
LONDON, (JTA) —A cata-
logue of Jewish manuscripts
from at least three famous col-
lections is being prepared at the
Institute of Asiatic Peoples of
the Soviet Acadeniy of Sciences,
according to a dispatch from the
Soviet Union received here. The
catalogue, envisaged as one of
inestimable value to scholars of
Hebraica and Judaica, is sched-
uled to appear shortly under the
editorship of two Soviet scholars,
K. Starkova and A. Ginsburg.
The catalogue will be based
on the collections left by the
late Leo Friedland, a St. Peters-
burg banker and philanthropist
under the Czarist regime; Prof.
Daniel A. Chovolson, a Jew who
converted to Christianity to hold
the chair of Hebrew and Syriac
at the University of St. Peters-
burg; and a famous collection by
'David Maggid.
