Plays Part in
`Mary Sunshine'

RICHARD APTEKAR

Richard Aptekar sings, dan-
ces and acts his way through
"Little Mary Sunshine," the
musical spoof currently at the
Vanguard Playhouse.
A Wayne State University
student, Aptekar is a member
of the Detroit Jewish News edi- •
torial staff. Though his role
in "Sunshine" is his first ven-
ture as an actor, he has ap-
peared in concert on many
stages with the Wayne State
Men's Glee Club and has sung
in other choir groups, including
that of Cong. Ahavas Achim.

Criterion Club Will
Hold `Maytime Ball'

The Criterion Club will hold
a "Maytime Ball" 8:30 p.m. Sat
urday at Cong. Beth Abraham,
it was announced by executive
secretary Sara Applebaum, chair-
men of the event.
Music for the occasion will be
provided by Phil Peralta and his
orchestra with Jimmy Angel
doing the vocals. Social mixers
will be directed by Mickey Stern
with refreshments and entertain-
ment arranged for the dance in-
termission. The public is invited.

Elect Spoon Captain
of Mumford Ball Club

Robert Spoon has been elect-
ed captain of the Mumford
High School baseball team.
A senior, this is his third
season with the club, beginning
as shortstop and now center-
fielder. His batting average has
been consistently over 300.
The son of Mr. and Mrs.
Julius Spoon, 5235 W. Outer
Dr., Robert has also played for
League in which his father last
three years in the Babe Ruth
