Two Councils Adopt
Tribute to Ben-Zvi,
Other Resolutions
Under the joint auspices of
the Jewish Community Council
and the Zionist Council who
have tradionally sponsored the
community-wide celebration of
Israel's independence since its
re-esatblishment as a sovereign
state in 1948, more than 1,300
persons gathered to mark the
15th observance of Israel's in-
dependence on April 28.
The program was presided
over by Rabbi Leo Fram, chair-
man of the Zionist Council of
Detroit. Featured among other
elements was a eulogy of the
late Israeli President, Izhak
Ben Zvi, by Rabbi Max J. Wohl-
gelernter (Ittamar), general sec-
retary of the Chief Rabbinate
of Israel. The keynote address
was delevered by Col. Jacob
Monbaz. Counsellor of the Is-
raeli delegation to the UN..
The assembly unanimously
adopted two resolutions, one of
greeting to the State of Israel,
the other an expression of sym-
pathy- to Mrs: Ben Zvi, and to
the Israeli Prime Minister,
David Ben Gurion.
Dr. Eisenstein Will Be Main Speaker
at Bnai Brith Judaism Institute
Dr. Ira Eisenstein will be the
main spaeker at the second an-
nual Institute of Judaism spon-
sored by Bnai Brith May 17-19
at Camp Tamarack, advise Ber-
nard Panush and Rose Fox, In-
stitute co-chairmen.
Dr. Eisenstein will deliver
three talks on the theme "What
Can A Modern Jew Believe?"
Friday evening, the subject will
be "What Can A Modern Jew
Believe About God?" The topic
for the Saturday afternoon lec-
ture is "What Can A Modern
Jew Believe About Israel?" The
final lecture on Sunday morn-
ing will be "What Can A Mod-
ern Jew Believe About The
Jewish Way of Life?"
The lectures will be chaired
by Harry Yudkoff, member, Su-
preme Lodge Board of Gov-
ernors; Mrs. Phillip Fealk, vice-
president of District No. 6; and
by Mrs. Morris Tack, past presi-
dent of District No. 6 Women's
Council.
Also participating in the In-
stitute is Rabbi Harold White,
rabbi of Beth Israel' Center in
Ann Arbor, who will be in
charge of the traditional Sab-
bath services. The cantor will
be Cantor Reuven Frankel of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek. Al Bunin,
past president of the Metro-
politan Council, is chairman of
the ritual committee.
On May 17, there will be a
sing-along with Hy Crystal,
while Lou Barden, also a past
president of the Council, will

tertainment. Penina Frankel will
demonstrate new Israeli dances
and Phil Goren will render song
recitals. A special feature will
be a book display prepared' by
