League of Jewish Women to Install Officers, Give Rosenberg Awards The annual meeting of the League of Jewish Women's Or- ganizations, an affiliate of the National Bureau of Federated Jewish Women's Organizations will be held 8:15 p.m., May 16 at Temple Emanu-El. Officers will be installed by Mrs. Samuel B. Danto, past president of the League. Mrs. Herbert Carson, president of Temple Emanu - El Sisterhood, will deliver the invocation. The annual report will be given by Mrs. Martin Naimark, outgoing president of the League. The Mildred Simons Rosen- berg Youth Awards were an- nually presented to the out- standing young man and woman in the community, chosen on the basis of high scholastic standing, participation in community and school activities and potential leadership ability. Two exhibitions, widely dif- ferent in character, open at the Detroit Institute of Arts May 16, with the Detroit Arts Com- mission and the trustees of the Founders Society as hosts. At a subscription dinner at 6 p.m. in Rivera Court, Direc- tor Willis F. Woods will pre- sent 24 prize awards. Contemporary sculptor Mor- ris Brose, whose "Cat's Cradle" won the 1962 Founders Society Purchase Prize and earned for him the recognition of a one- man show will exhibit 30 bronzes. Brose, whose studio is at 1437 Randolph, teaches advanced sculpture at the Detroit So- ciety of Arts and Crafts. Seventeen of the 30 works in his show were executed in Rome and cast by Roman foun- dries; the remainder were cast by Brose himself in Detroit. All the work has been done since 1957, with three of the bronzes; Kadimah (Forward); Kadmoni (Ancient), and Nitzahon (Vic- tory) completed this year. His subject matter ranges from the humorous, as exem- plified by his "Chairman of the Board," and "Arm Chair Gen- eral," to the formal "Pieta, III." Mr. Brose has had one-man exhibitions at the Peridot Gal- lery, New York, in 1960 and 1962, where another is sched- uled for the spring of 1964, as well as at the Detroit Artist's Market and the Little Gallery in Birmingham. His works are represented in the New York collections of Joseph Hirsh- horn, Mr. and Mrs. Albert List and the Chase Manhattan Bank, and in the Detroit collection of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence A.
