Stephen Simon, 25-year-old associate conductor of the New York Orchestral Society, received wide acclaim for his performance as conductor of the orchestra at Philharmonic Hall, New York, on May 1. Simon, who is well known in Detroit, is a nephew of Samuel S. Greenberg, prominent Jewish community leader, who attended the concert in New York. In his comments on Simon's debut, in the New York Times, Ross Parmenter wrote: "Mr. Simon had solid merits of his own to account for his success. He is already a very gifted choral conductor.
