Y., (JTA) — An expression of appreciation to the National Association of Evangelicals for its support for Jewish pr o t e s t s against the denial of religious rights to Jews in the Soviet Union was presented by Rabbi Marc H. Tanenbaum, director of the Inter-Religious Affairs Depart- ment of the American Jewish Committee. The ,Evangelical group back- ed a recent protest by the American Jewish Committee to the Soviet Union. Rabbi Tanen- baum, the first Jew ever to ap- pear at a meeting of the Chris- tian sect, urged greater com- munication between Jews and Evangelicals to end the wide- spread belief among sect mem- bers that Jews are "disinher- ited by God" and live "barren unredeemed existences." Such communication, he said, would show the sect that Jews were an increasingly highly literate community "with grow- ing concern for social justice as much as for individual sal- vation," that Judaism was "an increasingly vital force in the lives of millions of Jews and that Jews continue to have precious spiritual riches to contribute to mankind."
