ROME, (JTA) — Otto Frank,
the father of Anne Frank, was
received in audience by Pope

that he was glad the "flower
sown by Anne Frank had flour-
ished, and that the "Diary of
Anne Frank" had been spread
throughout the world for a bet-
ter understanding among men.

pleasure over the creation in
Israel of the . Italian Anne Frank
Center, by contributions from
Italians. Frank presented the

"The big need after housing
is jobs, and this will reach an
acute stage when government as-
sistance to the refugees comes
to an end," Haber warned.
The committee approved an
upward revision of its budgetary
allocation to the French ORT
vocational training programs to
help in coping with the antici-
pated additional thousands of ap-
plicants who are expected to turn
to the trade schools and other
ORT facilities for job instruc-
tion.
Haber announced the opening
of a new vocational center for
Algerian refugees in Toulouse,
with French government assist-
ance. Other retraining plans in-
clude the organization of 16
adult courses at the ORT center
at Montreuil, Paris; the institu-
tion of special programs for 16-18
year olds who are by official
standards "too old for high
school and too young for adult
programs." Still other provisions
are being made at the ORT trade
schools in Marseilles, Lyon and
Strasbourg.

Dr. Haber Spurs
ORT to Meet Need
of Algeria Refugees

The next three months is ex-
pected to be "an intensely crit-
ical period" for Algerian Jewish
refugees in France, according to
a report made by Dr. William
Haber, president of the American
ORT Federation, to his organiza-
tion's executive committee meet-
ing at Hotel Commodore, New
York.
"The vast majority of the 110,-
000 Jews who left Algeria in last
year's human flash flood, did
so between May and July," Haber
noted. "Government aid, which is
limited to one year, will begin
to terminate for tens of thou-
sands in the corning months,
with the prospect that the social
and relief service of the corn-
' munity may well be inundated by
I the sheer massiveness of the
human needs to be met."
