Play Attacking
Anti-Semitism
Proves Success

GENEVA (JTA) — The first
performance in Geneva of Max
Frisch's "Andorra," described
as a "four-hour violent attack
on anti-Semitism" was hailed
here as a great success. The
play, also described as a re-
markable study of the position
of the Jews in a hostile world,
portrays for its Swiss and inter-
national public in Geneva the
birth and development of such
prejudice.
The climax is the murder of
presumably Jewish heroes. Each
of the witness and accomplices
in the killings explains to the
audience that while they de-
plore the crime, they cannot
feel personally responsible for
what happened beyond their
will. The play is skillfully per-
formed by top rank Swiss actors.

Judge Rifkind Urges
Kennedy to Provide for
Religious Bigotry Study
NEW YORK .(JTA) — For-
mer Federal Judge Simon Rif-
kind urged President Kennedy
to include in the proposed Fed-
eral mental health program
provisions for study and treat-
ment of racial and religious
bigotry which Judge Rifkind
described as "a major mental
health problem in this country."
Judge Rifkind spoke at the
inaugural dinner of the Ameri-
can Jewish Committee's 1963
Appeal for Human Relations,
held at the Waldorf-Astoria.
The 1963 Appeal goal is

The Vaad Harabonirn is call-
ing the attention of the Jewish
public to the following: Reg-
ular matzohs baked for use the
whole year around are not Kosh-
er for Passover. Only matzohs
baked for Passover are Kosher
for the holidays.
None of the local bakeries
have any macaroons and cake
that are Kosher for Passover.
There are some non-kosher
establishments, halls, clubs, etc.,
which advertise "traditional
sedorim" on Passover. Some
places advertise "kosher style"
food products which are not
Kosher. The term "Kosher
style" has been outlawed by the
State of Michigan.
A "kosher l'Pesach" label on
a product which does not bear
authoritative rabbinic endorse-

Soviet pressures to revise his

it was reported here from the
Soviet capital.
"Babi Yar," which relates the
tragedy of the Nazi murder of
more than 80,000 Jewish men,
women and children in a ravine
by that name near Kiev during
the German occupation of Rus-
sia, was widely interpreted in
the West as a denunciation of
continuing anti-Semitism in the
Soviet U n i o n. On a visit to
Paris last month, the poet ad-
mitted he had made changes in
the poem. He said he had done
so because the West had used
the original version for a
propoganda effort to "pretend"

The effect of the changes was
to diminish the centrality of the
Jewish victims in the atrocity.
