Crestohl Dies;
Canadian MP

MONTREAL, (JTA) - Leon
Crestohl, member of the Can-
adian Parliament and honorary
president of the Canadian Ort
Federation, died here March 20
at the age of 63. He was a
popular political figure who had
withstood the Conservative
landslide a few years ago to
retain his Montreal constituency
for the Liberal party.
Born in Warsaw, he was edu-
cated in Canada, became an at-
torney and had been a member
of Parliament since 1950, where
for many years he was the only
Jew. He was for a time editor
of the Canadian Jewish Con-
gress, the United Israel Appeal
and various Zionist organiza-
tions. He became president of
Canadian ORT in 1952 and was
a member of the World ORT
Union executive committee and
central board.

LILLIAN STERN

Dear wife and mother
who left us on March
31, 1958. Sadly missed
by her husband, Irving
Stern, and daughters,
Sandra, Estelle and
Gail, and brothers and
sisters.

Miriam Teichner, a former
newspaperwoman, member of a
pioneer Detroit family, died in
Ossining, N.Y., at the age of
75. Funeral services will be held
in New York today.
She was the daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob
Teichner. Her mother, the late
Fanny Teichner, died a few years
ago in her 90s. She was the
granddaughter of Simon Freed-
man, who was president of Tem-
ple Beth El from 1860 to 1865.
Miss Teichner played an im-
portant role as a correspondent
for the Detroit Evening News,
in 1915, on the peace ship Oscar
II that took Henry Ford to Eu-
rope on his ill-fated peace mis-
sion.
Miss Teichner worked for the
Detroit News, then went on to
the New York Globe. She wrote
poetry and her works were col-
lected in a published volume.
She was the first woman to be
assigned to write a column for
a newspaper editorial page-
one of her first assignments on
the Detroit News.
She is survived by a sister,
Mrs. Catherine Rose of New
York, and Detroit cousins, Ar-
thur Goulson, Emanuel Frank,
Mrs. Irving Hirschmann and
Mrs. Margaret Sloss.

Dr. Louis Kamin Dies

An internist at the Web Clinic
for 18 years, Dr. Louis E.
Kamin, 3395 Cambridge, died
March 23. He was 64.
Dr. Kamin was a Detroit phy-
sician for 33 years and a World
War II veteran of the Army
Medical Corps. He attended the
University of Pennsylvania, the
University of Michigan and
Wayne State University.
Dr. Kamin was a staff mem-
ber at Detroit Memorial Hospi-
tal and was affiliated with the
Wayne County Medical Society,
Mairnonides Medical Society
and Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
Surviving are his wife, Belle;
a son, Blair; a daughter, Fran-
cine; . and two sisters, Mrs. Joe
Horwitz and Mrs. Carl Seasword.
