Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Was-
serman of Santa Rosa Dr. an-
nounce the engagement of their
daughter, Ellen Kay, to Stanley
Marx, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mor-
ris Marx of Marlowe Ave.
The bride-elect is a senior in
education at the University of
Detroit. Her fiance attends the
Ohio College of Chiropody in
Cleveland.

Council to Hold Community-Wide
Observance of Ghetto Uprising

Emma Schaver, concert so-

Meyer, Barkai, author of the re-
cently published "The Fighting
Ghettos," Rabbi Benjamin H.
Gorrelick, former United States
Army Chaplain, and Cantor
David Bagley of Beth Aar6n
Synagogue will be among the
participants in the 20th anni-
versary program marking De-
troit's Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
Commemoration, 8 p.m., April
7, at the Adas Shalom.
Announcement of the event
was made jointly by Irving Po-
kempner and Sidney M. She-
vitz, co-chairmen of the culture
commission of the Jewish Com-
munity Council, under whose
auspices the now traditional
gathering is arranged.
Other program participants
include Rebecca Frohman, con-
cert pianist, and ghetto and con-
centration camp survivors.
Emma Schaver, whose inter-
pretations of the Ghetto mood
in song won international ac-
claim, was invited by the World
Jewish Congress to participate
in a cultural mission to the DP

Three Bnai Brith lodges and
their chapters are holding
leadership receptions with Co-
median Milt Moss as the guest
star. The Louis Marshall Lodge
and Chapter reception will be
next Monday, 8:30 p.m., in the
Mural Room of Boesky's, 20231
James Couzens.
Pisgah Lodge and Chapter will
be joined by Detroit Lodge and
Chapter at a get-together on
Tuesday, 8:30 p.m., also at
Boesky's.
The affairs are in advance of
the 1963 Bnai Brith Israel Bond
program.
Refreshments will be served.
Members will be guests of the
Detroit Israel Bond Organization.

tragedy, helped to raise the
morale and spirits of "the rem-
nants of Israel."
Upen her return to the United
States, she recorded her first
album of Ghetto songs, "I Be-
lieve," authentic renditions of
the feelings and experiences of
the survivors. Later, with the
accompaniment of the Kol Is-
rael Orchestra directed by Marc
Lavry, the eminent Israeli com-
poser and conductor, she record-
ed in Jerusalem an album
"From the Heart of a People,"
which included, in addition to
Israeli songs, many of the ghet-
to melodies she had made popu-
lar.
Rabbi Gorrelick, of Beth
Aaron • Synagogue, served •as
Army chaplain in the European
Theater of Operations during
World War " II. Immediately
upon Liberation he was active
in rehabilitation and rescue
work with Jewish DPs. He has
been a member of the executive
boards of the Community Coun-
cil, Zionist Organization, United
Hebrew SchOols and Hillel Day
School.
The city-wide event is ar-
ranged not only in tribute to the
freedom fighters, but to com-
memorate also the six million
Jews killed by Nazis. Tickets

Warsaw Prepares
Impressive Exhibit
on Ghetto Revolt

LONDON (JTA) — The Jew-
ish Historical Institute at War-
saw is preparing a new compre-
hensive exhibit dealing with the
rebellion of Jews in the War-
saw Ghetto against the Nazi
army, 20 years ago, it was
learned here.
The exhibit will be only one
of many other major graphic
and literary portions of the ob-
servance of the 20th anniversary
of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising,
scheduled to be held in War-
saw April 19-21. The uprising
had been launched April 19,
1943, on the eve of Passover.

ranking member of the United
States delegation to the United
Nations who has been appoint-
ed general chairman of the
sponsors committee of the ex-
hibit commemorating the 20th
Anniversary of the Warsaw
Ghetto Uprising of the YIVO
Institute for Jewish Research,
announced that a comprehen-
sive exhibit of pictures and
documents, depicting the Nazi
brutality, will be on view at the
international headquarters of
the YIVO Institute for Jewish
Research at 4 p.m. April 21 at
1048 Fifth Ave:, New York.
Outdoor ceremonies will be
held in front of the Institute's
building. For the occasion, the
entire block, between Fifth and
Madison Avenues, will be block-
ed off.
