On Monday, April 1st, Erection Day—YOU have it in your
power to avert a great calamity in our town!
Here are the facts in simple, straight-from-the-shoulder
words. You are being asked to vote for an increase in school taxes
of 5.3 mills per thousand of assessed home. valuation over what
you are now paying per year, and a $90,000,000.00 bond issue
which will cost 1.13 mills to retire over 25 years. Together the
additional School tax for which you are urged to vote "YES" will
cost you only 12-1/3e per week per thousand of the assessed
valuation of your home.

A "YES" vote by you will mean that Detroit can continue to
go ahead with the improved and expanded educational programs
that are now in the works ... it will mean no shortening of the
school year or double sessions in schools . it will permit retain-
ing all teachers, plus employing more teachers to serve our
increasing pupil enrollments ... it will avoid overcrowding in all
parts of the city and make possible more individual guidance .. it
will continue the improving of present educational services and the
going forward with plans. for 71 safe school buildings, additions,
rehabilitations and replacements. Good schools in home neighbor
hoods increase the surrounding real estate values.

Don't short-change our 300,000 children who can't vote!
Let's do what's right and give our youngsters a good educa-
tion. The future welfare of Detroit and America depends
upon how adequately we provide educational opportunities for
our children.

We cannot we dare not fail ... or our school operating
budgets will be cut by 1/3 ... a calamity in the strongest sense
of the word!

ALL voters can votp

3 on proposal 'A"

AND ALL WE'RE TALKING ABOUT IS AN INCREASE OF
ONLY 12-1/30 per week, per thousand of assessed valuation.

Let these facts determine your vote.
