Pharmacists Join Gertz -Cooper
National Poison Troth Announced
Prevention Week

The 120,000 pharmacists
across the country joined this
week with other medical, safety
and public health people in the
second annual observance of
National Poison Prevention
Week, recently proclaimed by
President Kennedy.
Each year, approximately 500
children under five years of age
die as a result of accidental
poisoning. In addition, the Pub-
lic Health Service reports that
such accidents involve 500,000
children annually.
A review of the accidental
poisonings reported to the Na-
tional Clearinghouse for Poison
Control Centers shows that
nearly two-thirds of these cases
were due to negligent storage
of internal medicines. There-
fore, the pharmacists of metro-
politan Detroit offered their
professional services in discuss-
ing the proper storage and use
of drugs and other household
health necessities.
Poison Antidote Charts are
available free to the public in
most community pharmacies in
the area.
Among those who were pres-
ent when Mayor Cavanagh
signed the Poison. Prevention
Week proclamation were Morris
R o g o f f, president, Michigan
Society of Hospital Pharmac-
ists, and Harold Ellias, presi-
dent, Metropolitan Detroit Phar-
maceutical Assn.
