Detroit pianist Ruth Meckler Laredo will make a sold - appear- ance in Carnegie Hall, New York, next Thursday. She will play the Mendelssohn Concerto No. 1, under the baton of Leopold Stokowski with the American Symphony Orchestra. She returned recently from a concert tour of Holland, Germany, Italy and France with her husband, violinist Jaime Laredo. The young couple were the first American artists chosen by Isaac Stern, president of the Carnegia Hall Association, in a cultural exchange program with the Jeunesses Musicales of France and Italy. Ruth - is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Meckler of Robson Avenue. She was a former pupil of Micha Kottler. More than 100 teenagers attended a party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ager of Huntington Woods at which their daughter, Anita, surprised her cousin, Charlotte Sternberg, with a "sweet sixteen" celebration in her honor. Music was provided by Steve Fisher, Norm Bienstock and John Quinn. Mrs. Louis Honigman, one of the oldest members of the Yeshivath Beth Yehudah and Women's Sabbath League, was honored by the organization on her 83rd birthday at the recent Purim luncheon.
