JOHN M. WISE made a presenta-

meeting March 7 to Dr. Richard
J. Bing, 3861 Carriage, Birming-
ham, chairman of the department

ty. it was in the form of a
$'1,500 check toward the pur-
. chase of a special movie camera
for use in diagnosing heart dis-
ease, especially congenital cases.
For Judge Wise, the camera
carried a special personal mean-
ing. His married daughter, Mrs.
Ronald E. Check, 19644 Renfrew,
is afflicted with Taussig-Bing dis-
ease—a complicated malforma-
tion of the heart at birth.
The disease got its name froth
the research of Dr. Bing and Dr.
Helen B. Taussig, head of the
Children's Heart. Clinic at Johns
Hopkins Hospital.
Dr, Bing said the camera will
be utilized in conjunction with
the 'WSU department of
radiology.

Discussion in the Talmud" will
be the subject of the address
next Wednesday, at the Esther
Berman Branch of the United
Hebrew Schools, at the third of
the current Midrasha Institute
sessions, to be delivered by Dr.

Eliezer Berkovits, head of the
department of Jewish philoso-
phy at Hebrew Theological. Col-
lege, Skokie, Ill.
Dr. Berkovits' address is part
of the seventh annual lecture
series, in which nearly 100 en-
rolled participants are discus-
sing the over-all question "The
Impact of the Talmud on Jew-
ish Life."
Last Wednesday's speaker
was Dr. William Gordon Braude
of Providence, It. I.
Dr. Berkovits, who was or-
dained Rabbi by the Hildes-
heirner Rabbinical. Seminary in
Berlin, has received Simchot
from noted rabbis in Europe.
He holds. a Ph.D. degree in
philosophy from Berlin Univer-
sity.
Before assuming his present
post at the Hebrew Theological
College he held rabbinical posi-
tions in Berlin, Germany, Leeds,
England, Sydney, Australia, and
Boston, Mass.
He is the author of seven im-
portant books on the Talmud;
Jewish philosophy and other
subjects and has written for
national magazines.

U-M Art Professor
to Speak at Hillel

Irving Kaufman, assistant pro-
fessor of art, University of Michi-
gan, will speak 8 p.m. Wednes-
day at the U-M Hillel Founda-
tion Center in Ann Arbor.
Prof. Kaufman's topic will be
"Jewish Consciousness and the
Arts," and is part of a series
sponsored by Hillel entitled,
"The Jew in Western Culture."
Dr. Herman Jacobs is director
of the Ann Arbor Hillel Founda-
tion.

aged by Mrs. Raymond Levine

to Give Guidance on

Israel Reinuss, director of
the Midwestern Office of the
Jewish Agency Immigration De-
partment, who is permanently
stationed in Chicago, will visit

PEC Sets New Record

PEC, Israel Economic Corpo-
ration, has set a new record
high in capital, surplus and re-
serves, along with a substantial
gain in net income, and total
assets, according • to Joseph
Meyerhoff, president.
In his annual report to PEC's
more than 12,000 stockholders,
Meyerhoff declared that the
'company's capital, surplus and
reserves rose to a new high of
$19,673,770 at the end of 1962—
an advance of more than $2,-
500,000 over the previous year-
end figure of $17,171,296.
