A MESSAGE FROM

DAVID BEN-GURION

DAVID BEN-GURION

Prime Minister of Israel

My heartiest good wishes to the United Jewish Appeal, its leaders
and workers and to the hundreds of thousands of its supporters on
the Silver Jubilee of its creation. During the past 25 years the UJA
has served as a mighty machine that has set in motion great pro-
grams of rescue, Aliyah, absorption, housing and agricultural
settlement in Israel.
The sum total of UJA's work is the epitome of Jewish volun-
teering and brotherhood • and a supreme expression of Jewish
solidarity.
But the work is far from completed. Hundreds of thousands of
Jews are now knocking at the gates of Israel and tremendous nation-
building tasks including full absorption, newcomer education and
settling vast desert regions still lie ahead.
On this important anniversary you are called upon to persevere
in your efforts so that we may receive and swiftly integrate the
large waves of immigration which continue to reach the country.

Blessed Be This Day •

On this historic occasion of the 25th anniversary of the United Jewish Appeal, we
consider ourselves Blessed. . .

We are blessed that a great movement • came into being to provide relief for three
million of our unfortunate fellow Jews in time of crisis. . . .

It is our good fortune that the UJA emerged in a catastrophic period in our history to
assist in removing the curse of homelessness from hundreds of thousands of our kinsmen who
have found homes in Israel. . . .

With a sense of deep pride, we pay honor to Detroit's Allied Jewish Campaigns which
have made the UJA their major beneficiary during the quarter of a century when there was
great need for assistance to the survivors from a great calamity.

Our congratulations go forth to the United Jewish Appeal, while expressing our grati-
tude to the generous Detroit Jewish community for its assistance, in providing the instrument
for the greatest humanitarian achievement that is now recorded to the credit of UJA.

May the fruition of the UJA efforts continue to lend dignity and honor to the Jewish
name.
