By filling out the coupon on the right, readers of The Jewish News may obtain a $3 seat for just $1 (while the supply lasts) for the National Basketball Asso- ciation game between the Detroit Pistons and the Western Division leaders—Los Angeles Lakers. It's easy to get the tickets. Just mail the coupon to the main Pistons box office at Cobo arena, Detroit 26, or present the coupon in person at the box office—not later than 2:15 p.m. on game day. The March 10th game marks the final visit of the Lakers to Detroit for a regular-season con- test. So far, the front-running Lakers have done well in De- troit, scoring four victories. Heading the Lakers will be their fabulous one-two punch of Elgin Baylor and Jerry West. Between them they are aver- aging better than 60 points per game. They're the heart of the Laker team which has run away with Western Division honors in the National Basketball Asso- ciation for the last two years. Basketball fans refer to Bay- lor and West as "Mr. Inside" and "Mr. Outside," respectively. Baylor is spectacular from around the boards, while West's jump shots have no equal around the N.B.A. West has recovered from a pulled muscle which kept him out of action when the Lakers last appeared in Detroit and were beaten by Boston before a record crowd of 11,028. While most of the Los An- geles headlines go to Baylor and West, the team is not with- out some other fine performers. Guards Dick Barnett and Frank Selvy have made vast contri- butions. The forward play of Rudy LaRusso usually goes without too much notice, although his "unselfishness" paves the way for Baylor and West to slip into the clear for easy shot points. Center Jim Krebs is another who plays a sound game with- out attracting much publicity. And the same goes for Rookies tickets. Clip the coupon and be it to the Pistons' main box office Leroy Ellis and Gene Wiley. sure to mail it at once—or bring at Cobo arena. The Lakers aren't slowing their pace, even though they have salted away the Western Division title. Their job now is to beat out the Boston Celtics for the best overall win-loss per- centage in the N.B.A. ASKETBALL CLU The top mark carries a $2,000 bonus to the fortunate team and also the extra-game advantage at home should both work their ways into the finals of the play- RESERVED SEAT*—JUST $ offs. *As long as supply lasts Coach Dick McGuire's Pistons also are faced with a problem of beating the Lakers since the Detroiters are battling for a playoff spot. Detroit and San Francisco have been in a hot duel for the third and final Western Division playoff slot. The Pistons boast some out- standing personalities in their own right, led by Forward Bai- ley Howell, the ex-Mississippi State All-American; Don Ohl, who won similar honors at Illinois, and Dave DeBusschere, the ex-great at the University of Detroit. DeBusschere has enjoyed a fine rookie season with the Pis- tons, After starting as a for- ward, DeBusschere has been switched to guard. He has aver- aged 11 points per game, but, more important, Big Dave rates third on the team in rebound- ing. Center Bob Ferry, former St. Louis U. All-American, and Ray Scott, a 6-9 cornerman from (Mail orders accepted) Portland University, round out the Piston starters.
