Rabbi Fried- man has been a key force in the UJA since the defeat of the Nand tyr- anny 17 years ago had set in motion the ap- peal's multi- million dollar drives for aid to distressed and oppressed Jews in over- seas lands. The UJA executive head was born in N e w Haven, Conn.. in 1918. He received Rabbi Friedman his Bachelor's Degree at Yale University in 1938 and was or- dained by Hebrew Union Col- lege-Jewish Institute of Re- ligion in 1943. The Allied Jewish Campaign was established in 1926 to en- able Detroit's Jewish citizens to make a combined gift for Jewish survival. Israel-Brazil Firm Searches for Water. RIE DE JANEIRO (JTA) — Israel and Brazil signed an agreement for the incorpora- tion of a joint firm -to, engage in locating water resources and irrigation work in the under- developed northeastern area of this country. The company will have a cap- italization of 100,000,000 cru- zeiros ($210,000), the majority shares to be owned by Brazil. Under the pact, Israel will train a number of Brazilians in Israel in locating water re- sources and will also subsidize the technical training of Bra- zilian students in this country.
