The Jewish National Fund,
through its president, Morris J.
Brandwine, and the co-chairmen
of the religious groups commit-
tee, Phillip Stollman and Harry
Cohen, issued a call to rabbis
and lay leaders of synagogues
in Detroit and out-state, to con-
duct the traditional Purim ap-
peals for Shalach Monos to
Israel, by contributing to the
planting of more trees and re-
claiming more of the soil in
the state of Israel.
Purim this year will be ob-
served on Sunday, March 10.
The Megillah will be read in
all synagogues Saturday night,
March 9, and again Sunday
morning. Many rabbis have in-
formed the JNF that they will
dedicate their Saturday morning
sermons preceding Purim to the
work of Jewish National Fund,
and will make a special appeal
to their congregants before the
reading of the Megillah Satur-
day evening.
Brandwine, S t o 11 in a n and
Cohen expressed confidence in
"a most favorable response of
Detroit and Michigan Jewry to
the call for Shalach Monos to
reclaim and reafforest more of
the land of Israel, thereby also
providing work for more new
settlers, for which they are paid
by the JNF."
