Thus, one of its prime concerns has always been the mitzvah of Zedakah which addresses each Jew with the urgent request that he share the bounties of life with his fellowman. "Faithful to this tradition of synagogue responsibility, we call upon every member of our congregations to give generous- ly of his time, his substance and his effort to the AJC, and to provide such support to the very limits of his capacity." The topic of his address will be "The Meaning of the Dead Sea Scrolls." Iwry was one of the first savants to decipher two of the original documents found at Qumran in 1947. In his doctoral dissertation he de- cisively proved the authenticity and pre-Christian date of these scrolls which are now housed in a specially built museum in Jerusalem. Iwry will discuss some of the written sources which elucidate Jewish history 2,000 years ago. A question and answer period will follow. The event is co-sponsored by Cong. Bnai Israel and Temple Beth Jacob. The public is in- vited to attend. Following the lecture, traditional Purim re- freshments will be served. -Eh Javits Gets Seminary Honorary Doctorate • Seaktfresh MIAMI BEACH — Compre- hensive revision of outmoded conflict - of - interest laws, on both the State and Federal level, is "critically needed" to safeguard public interest and for "the guidance of each legis- lator," U.S. Sen.
