I Headed by Tribute to Poet Leivick Troth Is Told

The Detroit Workmen's Circle
will hold a memorial program
honoring the recently deceased
Yiddish poet and author H:
Leivick 9 p.m. today at the W.
C. Educational Center, 18340
W. Seven Mile.
The program will include
readings from Leivick's works
by Mrs. Robert Israel, Michael
Scherman, 'Mordecai Teiler and
Simon • Klachefsky. The key-
note address will be .delivered
by Dr. Shmarya Kleinman, who
grew • up with and was a per-
sonal friend of Leivick.
A musical interlude will be
provided by the well-known vo-
calist and pianist, Bella Gold-
berg, who will present some of
Leivick's better known works.
The public is invited, at no
charge.

Workmen's Circle Branch
460-E will celebrate its 24th
anniversary with a program
and installation of officers 8:30
p.m. Saturday at the W. C.
Center.
The following members have
been elected for the year 1963:
Chairman Max Gross; Vice-
chairman Monroe Title; Fin.
Sec. Maurice Goldsmith; Treas-
urer Abe Brownston; Rec. Sec.
Eugene Brownstein; Corr. Sec.
Mrs. Moe Caplan; hospitalers
Mrs. Monroe Title and Mrs. Hy
Lipsitz; executives-at-large Nor-
man Pikulin, Robert Aronson
and Mrs. Charles Ensink.
A program, written especially
for this occasion by Mrs. Maur-
ice Goldsmith, will be presented
by members of the branch, with
Mrs. Robert Aronson at the
piano.
The next meeting of W. C.
Branch 1060 will offer "A
"Woman's View of Indonesia"
with Mrs. S. Sundari, an of-
ficer in three important insti-
tutions in her native land: The
Teachers' Federation, the Na-
tionalist Party and Women's
League. She is presently the
only woman of a group of
people sent to Wayne State
University for training in the
Institute of Labor and Indus-
trial Relations. This event will
take place 9 .p.m. Saturday, at
the home of Herb and Selma
Ovshinsky, 15200 Leslie, Oak
Park.
The W. C. Golden Ring Club
will hold its Fourth Jubilee 1
p.m. Wednesday at the W. C.
Center. Dr. Shmarya Kleinman
will be the principal speaker.
There will also be greetings
from the Abraham R e i s en
School, the Jewish Labor Corn-
mittee, the Michigan District
Committee of the W. C., the
Culture Club of the Jewish
Community Center. This event
has been rescheduled from a
previous date.

Center to Present Film Series on Dance

The Jewish Center will pre-
sent a series of dance films at
eight o'clock Sunday evenings.
The series will start on
March 3 with "Invention in
Dance" with Ruth St. Denis
and Alwin NikOlais and "La-
ment for Ignacio Majias" with
Jose Limon. The discussant will
be Fannie Aronson.
On April 7, the program will
feature "The Language of
Dance" with Jose Limon, "Sad-
ler's Wells Ballet" and "The
People Dance." Harriet Berg
will be the discussant.

The last program of the series
will be held on May 5 and will
present "Modern Ballet" with
Nora Kaye and Hugh Laing,
and "Night Journey" choreog-
raphed by Martha Graham.
Donald Randazzo will be the
discussant.
