Anti-Nazi Meetings Mark 30th Anniversary of Hitler's Rise
BERLIN, (JTA)—The day of
Hitler's coming to power in
Germany 30 years ago—on Jan.
30, 1933—was marked through-
out Germany with anti-Nazi
meetings and with an impres-
sive memorial gathering ar-
ranged by the Jewish commu-
nity of West Berlin in memory
of the Jews annihilated by the
Nazis.
Addressing a rally arranged
by the Social Democratic party,
West B e r l i n Mayor Willy
Brandt warned Germans to be
careful that "the past should
not be a future." Similar warn-
ings were voiced by speakers at
a mass meeting here arranged
by the International Union of
Former Resistance Fighters and
Former Deportees. In Frank-
furt, a public demonstration
was held at the university there,
arranged by members of vari-
ous anti-Nazi movements.
JDC to Give $1,950,000 to ORT
for Training Prograins Overseas

The Joint Distribution Com-
mittee will provide $1,950,000
during 1963 toward the over-
seas vocational training pro-
gram of ORT, the Organization
for Rehabilitation t h r o u g h
Training, it was announced by
officials of both organizations.
The grant will help finance
technical education and eco-
nomic rehabilitation activities
of ORT in Europe, Israel, North
Africa and Iran. More than
40,000 persons are expected to
receive such assistance in these
and other areas during the corn-
ing year.
The allocation for 1963 rep-
resents an increase of $65,000
over the previous year, to be
used primarily in France to ex-
' patid vocational services for
newly arrived Algerian and
other North African refugees.
ORT trade schools, apprentice
programs for youth, and special
_ courses for adults in France
have been greatly enlarged to
meet the needs of the refugees.
However, the full effect of
the influx of the 100,000 Alge-
rian Jewish newscomers is ex-
pected to be reflected in vastly
increased need for ORT training
during the next few months as
government repatriation aid
ends.
JDC receives its funds from
the United Jewish Appeal. ORT
is the principal agency afford-
ing vocational education to
