board meeting.
The Southfield High School
science teachers were invited to
take a tour of the Argonne Na-
tional Laboratory, near Chi-
cago.
A standing ovation brought
first place in the annual Va-
riety Show on Jan. 30 to pianist
Jaakko Leinonen, Southfield's
exchange student from Finland.
Other participants were Alan
Axelrod as a folk singer; Terry
Eichenhorn, songstress: Janice
Saul and Sheila Eder who per-
formed a monologue.'
Winners of the 1963 Student
Art Exhibit were announced this
week. Among them was Steven
Feldman in "Painting and
Drawing," second place. The
exhibition was sponsored by C.
Fensch and will remain- on dis-
play till the end of the week.
Winning 'entries will be sent to
the Regional Scholastic Exhibit
at Crowley's from Feb. 23 to
March 9.
Ten Southfield instrumental-
ists will compete in a district
solo and ensemble contest at
Pontiac Central High School on
Feb. 9. Don Isaacson will com-
pete playing the clarinet. Any
who receive "superior" ratings
will compete in the state finals
March, 23 at Western, Michigan
University.
Southfield placed second in
the Inter-Lakes League debate
Jan. 17, as Jim Voss and Paula
Levitt (negative) beat Farming-
ton. The final standing for
Southfield is six wins and two
losses.
Students collected a total of
$133.17 for the March of Dimes
campaign for the purchase of a
wheel chair, plus a recent do-
nation of $50 from the Spanish
club. Mrs. Edward Watkins is
chairmen of the March of Dimes
of Southfield Schools.
Southfield is going to join an
association of six suburban
schools for the purpose of or-
ganizing athletic competition,
G.A.A. recreation, forensics,
student government, school pub-
lications and any other events
which require student coor-
dination among schools.
Southfield High School will
serve as president of the league
which officially goes into opera-
tion during the 1964-65 school
year. It was decided at a joint
meeti•oz of the schools on Jan.
31, at Hazel Park High School,

Subject for Symposium

Golda Meir Scholarship Fund
as a perpetual aid to worthy

Fund, in Israel, which will in-
vest the principal and guaran-
tee a minimum return of 6 per
