Israel Ministry of Posts Issues
Danny Raskin's Rains Cause Heavy Damage to .2
Three Stamps Showing Native Birds
Settlements in Northern Israel

LISTENING

JERUSALEM, (JTA — The
cabinet has asked Minister of
Agriculture Moshe Dayan to pre-
pare a study of flood prevention
following the heavy rains this
weekend which inundated Sdeh
Nehemia and Amir settlements
in northern Israel.
Truckloads of food, animal fod-
der and building materials were
shipped to the stricken settle-
ments after the waters abated

Basketball Milestone

Israel's Ministry of Posts has announced the forthcoming
issue of a series of three airmail stamps depicting birds of
Israel. They were designed by Miriam Karoly of Haifa. Subjects
of the stamps are the Chlamydotis undulata (Hubara Bustard),
the Otus scons (Scons Owl) and the Ardea purpurea (Purple
Heron).

and evacuated children were re-
turned to their homes from near-
by settlements.
The cabinet is expected to con-
sider the question of compensat-
ing the two settlements at its
regular session next week after
damage due to the flooding has
been assessed. Preliminary esti-
mates place the flood damage at
many hundreds of thousands of
pounds.
While northern Israel suffered
from flood s, farmers in the
Lachish area and other southern
districts were bitterly disappoint-
ed when predicted rains failed
to materialize. Clouds dispersed
and most of the region had
bright sunshine. Rains were
again predicted for later this
week but the prospects of saving
southern crops were not promis-
ing.
