Chicago Kashrut Bet:1y Seeks More Strict
Market Supervision wi th Butchers' Help

CHICAGO, (JTA)
Stricter
supervision of kosher meat
markets in Chicago, where there
are now less than 100 of these
establishments, is being arrang-
ed here in negotiations between
the newly formed United Kash-
rut Commission and the Chi-
cago Kosher Butchers Associa-
tion.
Under the planned agree-
ment, the Commission would
hire more supervisors (mashgi-
chim) and would pay them from
Commission funds. Until now,
there have been only three su-

directly by the butchers they
supervise. The Commission in-
cludes older rabbis represent-

resenting the Chicago Rabbini-
cal Council, a group of younger
Orthodox spiritual leaders.
