Temple Beth Jacob to Mark Music Month
with Israeli Program of Songs and Dances

A program of ,Israeli songs and
dances will mark the celebration
of Jewish Music Month 9 p.m.
Feb. 8 at Temple Beth Jacob, 79
Elizabeth Lake, Pontiac, in a
special program arranged by Dr.
Jerome Peters, chairman of the
evening.
Planning was conducted by the
adult education committee of the
Temple whose chairman is Dr.
Maurice !Thome.

Synagogue Youth Will
Hold Weekend Parley

The Greater Detroit Council
of United Synagogue Youth will
sponsor a convention for all
USY chapters of greater De-
troit Feb. 8-10.
The convention will begin
Feb. 8 at Cong. Adas Shalom
with Friday evening services
followed by an Oneg Shabbat.
Bnai Moshe Synagogue will be
the site of Saturday morning
services, a lunch and afternoon
discussion groups. The theme
of the convention to be discussed
on Saturday afternoon is "The
Responsibility of Jewish
Youth."
A dance, "Soire de Paris,"
will be held 8 p.m., Feb. 9 at
Cong. Shaarey Zedek. Youths
of the community are invited to
attend this semi-formal event.
A bunch will be held Feb. 10,
at Beth Aaron.

Temple Israel Couples
to , Hold Hawaiian Luau

According to Rabbi Ernest
Conrad, spiritual leader of • the
Temple, the public is invited to
attend this program, introducing
Shabbat Shira, the "Sabbath of
Song."
Among the participants will be
the Habonim Dance Company,- a
choral group, an Israeli accor-
dionist, and an ensemble that
will play special arrangements
on the chalil or Israeli recorder.
The Habonim Dance Company,
newly organized by Shaul Rosen-
feld, Israeli "shaliach" to Detroit
Habonim, has been featured on
television.
Dancers and instrumentalists
include Ahuva Edelman, Chava
Feder, Leslie Kanes, Avraham
Kunianski, Larry Mangen, Marc
Maxman, Talia Mishory, Marcia
Robbins, Michael Stiebel, Mary
Turtletaub and David Wasser-
man.

Hebrew-Yiddish Shule
Children Mark Holiday

A Tu B'Shvot children's cele-
bration will be held 4 p. m.
Wednesday at the Hayim Green-
berg Hebrew-Yiddish Shule. A
new Israeli movie will be shown
and the youngsters will plant
Jewish National Fund trees in
honor of the holiday.
A school board meeting win
be held 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at the
Labor Zionist Institute.

Temple Israel Couples Club
will present an Hawaiian Luau
8:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Temple.

Dan Frohman Will
Premier Liturgical
Work at Ahavas Achim

The main sanctuary of Cong.
Ahavas Achim, 19190 Schaefer,
will be the setting for the first
public performance of a new
Sabbath Eve Service written by
Dan Frohman, Detroit choral di-
rector and voice teacher.
A preview of the work was
performed before a gathering at
the home of Mrs. Emma Schaver.
At 8 p.m. Feb. 10 the Froh-
man work will be sung in concert
featuring soloists Cantors Simon
Bermanis, Louis Klein, Jacob H.
Sonenklar and the composer
himself. Mrs. Dan Frohman' will
serve as accompanist. Rabbi Mil-
ton Arm will introduce the selec-
tions and provide background
commentary.
An added feature, the Sister-
hood Singers of Ahavas Achim
under the direction of Cantor
Bermanis will present a musical
medley.
The program is being spon-
sored by the men's club and sis-

Jacob H. Sonenklar as sololist.

will be Georges Miquelle, the
