SherMan is currently the man-
aging director of the Paz Oil Co.,
Israel's largest oil concern,
which was formerly the Shell
Oil Co. of Palestine. He was one
of the moving spirits in the con-
struction of the oil pipeline
from Elath to the refineries at
Haifa and, under his leadership,
Paz Oil is engaged in an expan-
sion program for the production
of a wide variety of petroleum
products.
Born in Israel, Sherman re-
ceived his university education
in the United States, where he
specialized in finance and mar-
keting. During the Israel War of
Independence, he was in charge
of securing supplies for the Is-
rael armed forces. At the end of
the war, he. was asked by the
late Eliezer Kaplan, Israel's
finance minister, to set up the
government of Israel supply
mission to direct purchases
under the Export-Import Bank
loan to Israel.
In 1951, Sherman came to the
U. S. to direct Israel's economic
activities with the rank of Min-
ister. _ .
